The only worse example of acting I can think of is Hayden Christiansen in the Phantom Menace (which is a performance SO much worse than any other it makes DiMaggio’s 56-hit streak look like a bloop single).

Shattered Glass looks like a good movie to rent on a cold snowy day
It's wonderful film. Seriously. I own it, I was so impressed.
Peter Saarsgaard was great. Make sure if you do rent it, that you listen to the audio commentary.

I'm actually not nearly as upset about Astin as I am that Serkis didn't receive one.
His ability to portray Smeagol/Gollum was amazing.

The whole star wars series
is fun and entertaining, but I don’t think they count as great movies at least not like the Godfather series. Empire Strikes back just doesn’t have the depth, drama and complexity of Godfather 2.
But the question was best sequel. Not best film
I think for story continuation plus originality, Empire makes a strong case.

Although it has garnered such affection that you could argue its case pretty convincingly, I think. (also SDcat has a good point re best sequel)
Movies
have lead me to believe that flowing over a waterfall is not only a 100% survivable event, but it also makes you sexy.

The entire series was awesomesauce, even Season 5, but just a bit less so
I don’t think Season 2 gets enough love, though, probably because so few of some of those guys had much impact/carryover except in spots.
