Armando Galarraga - An Apodaca project? Worth a shot?

I just read that after designating Armando Galarraga for assignment the Tigers are now looking to trade him. http://topnews360.tmcnet.com/topics/associated-press/articles/2011/01/21/136943-tigers-will-try-trade-galarraga.htm

So here is my question. Do any of you think that it would be worth it for the Rockies to give Armando Galarraga a shot? I don't like the idea of trading away a Rockies prospect and taking on his $2.3 million one year deal, but if there are no takers and he is actually designated for assignment, I think it would be worth taking a shot, especially if he would sign a minor league deal and come to Spring Training.

Granted I don't know a lot about him.  The reason I would like to take a look is because in that one amazing game, blown by a bad call, he showed a lot of character. Apodaca has a history of taking other teams cast-offs and turning them into good pitchers. I think Galarraga has talent, he went 13-7 and finished 4th in RoY voting in 2008. That type of potential, with that kind of character, I think he is a better project for Dac than Franklin Morales.

I like the Rockies rotation of Ubaldo, JDLR, Chacin (we need to come up with a nickname for him), Hamel and Cook. However, nobody finishes a season with 5 starters and after those 5 I think it is pretty slim pickin's.

So my question is, 1. Do you think he is worth a shot. 2. What would it take. It is easy to say a minor league deal with no guarantees, but would you consider picking up his $2.3 million for this year in a trade for a minor league player?

Chacin is "The Machine"

Otherwise I don’t think he is a great option considering who we already have slated for the MLB and Sky Sox starting rotations. We just don’t have the room.

You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the goddamn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all. ~Earl Weaver

We already have paulino and Rogers

as bulpen 6th starters, and I prefer both to Galarraga. If it wasn’t for his fame, nobody would have even noticed.

Did ‘The Machine’ nickname die?
