Blue Jays Inquire On Huston Street - MLB Daily Dish
Word on the wire is that Toronto wants a closer. Word around these parts is that Colorado has a closer - and it's not Huston Street. It's Rafael Betancourt. No telling what Street will garner in return, especially if Toronto absorbs some/all of Street's salary, but salary relief will certainly help the Rockies acquire important pieces this offseason.

The next question is
other than salary relief, what do the Blue Jays have that we could want? I’m not sure we could get any impact talent for one, possibly two years of Street – especially since the Blue Jays aren’t stupid. There might be a package out there of Street plus someone for something good but I’m not familiar enough with their system.

How about Street + Wigginton
for a smile and a handshake?

when did AA get DOD's job?
the phillies signed papelbon, and are now #1evilorg. the rockies have signed no one.

No way! I want a Tim Horton's Double Double...
and whatever sandwich Mr. Sub (watch a Jays game for their big sign behind home plate) does best…and some old Rush and Gordon Lightfoot CDs.

A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...

That serisouly would be perfect
Blue Jay doesn’t have to give us anything, just take these guys off our team with their salary and I would be thrilled.

Street is that bad?
He’ll fetch something.

impact talent is doubtful
we’d be looking to get a good spare part for him. He’s a closer for 7 mill with an injury history and for like one season. He’s not fetching much. Besides, it’s more a salary dump for us and people know that…

True..
But he’s still a pretty good reliever. We won’t be simply giving him to the Blue Jays for nothing but salary relief.

maybe we could get
Chad Jenkins for him at best I’d say… otherwise we get Brett Cecil and use him as a loogy for our bullpen.

Chad Jenkins or Deck McGuire would be two guys I’d ask about if it’s possible getting. They put up decent numbers in AA and my friend says they have heavy sinkers but nothing else outstanding.

Jenkins is likely available
He’s been solid but outdone by other pitching prospects. McGuire is unlikely to be shipped this early having only just joined the Jays in the 2010 draft. They still see some upside with him.
ah
awesome, thanks!

But even as a salary dump he should return something
Dotel got Macdonald and Lambo, Francisco got Napoli, and Capps returned Ramos non of those relievers are far superior or far cheaper than Street.

No. Really.
They can just take Street and Wigginton and their salaries. That’s more than fair.

ya sure?
Their starting CF is a 33 year old Dewayne Wise who hit .202 with 2 homers last year. I think theyd love a stud CF prospect. All I know about Morrow is he eats innings, throws hard and strikes batters out. He could potentially be the ace on the Rox.

I would actually like to see the Rockies' staff
use the upper half of the strike zone a lot more than they do. Sure you can get hurt on high pitches at Coors. You can also get killed by trying to nibble exclusively at the knees, and leaving too many pitches thigh-high.

He was acquired late in the season
in a three way trade with the Cardinals and White Sox, that cost the Jays a load of relievers and a B pitching prospect in Zach Stewart. The Jays site is slow updating and is probably behind the eighball yet again. He’s locked up for a good while and will be the CF for the next few years for the Jays.
thanks for the info
replace Blackmon with Alex White and pull the trigger

I'm thinking that
between Morrow and Romero as well as Nestor Molina and Andrew Hutchison they want to keep their pitching to have a damn fine rotation.

got me on Blackmon being a top prospect
but numbers don’t lie and Morrow’s numbers do not warrant more than Street and lets say Alex White.

Morrow is the friggin man
his numbers certainly warrant it. If you want to pick apart Morrow, your best bet is to go the injury-potential route…
"These are thin mints. I put them in the freezer. My favorites. So good."
--Reds outfielder Adam Dunn, on the girl scout cookies he keeps in his locker
Or to go into more detail on that
Morrow is somewhat of a pet project for the Jays. They’ve been refining his control over the past two years having acquired him on the cheap from Seattle in a deal for Brandon League and a C+ prospect. They cut down on his walks by getting him to ease off on his stuff a little, but are still trying to improve his LOB% and his inability to create double plays (he got his first DP in his final start of the season). He’s just added a cutter to his arsenal that has led to good results in small sample, so the Jays see him as a constantly improving asset.
Given that the Jays are short on top end pitching atm, they see him as a likely key piece next season and in the coming years supporting Romero, and are thus unlikely to let him go. Add in the fact that the Jays have a logjam in the OF (Bautista/Rasmus/Thames/Snider/Davis/Encarnacion with Sierra/Gose likely less than a year away) and are unlikely to value Blackmon above at least three of those guys, and given Street’s injury history and $7million contract, it’s unlikely the Jays will give up a key piece for ‘just’ a solid closer and a good OF prospect. You’d have to offer them something serious to get Morrow at this stage, he’s certainly not untouchable, but holds significant value as a current #3 starter.
The Jays are looking to trade this year, but mostly they’re looking to trade prospects for MLB players.
replace Blackmon
with Alex White or Tyler Matzek

Last year that may have got a bite from the Jays
This year it’s the whole ready MLB talent thing that would likely kill such a trade. Both are real good, but the known mid/top end MLB pitcher holds more value to the Jays than another SP prospect. If Morrow had less years left, perhaps it would happen, but given his controlability and current value it doesn’t work from the Jays perspective in terms of period of contention.
Should note that the main block between the Jays and your good selfs
is that both teams are nigh on identical in both the minors and majors. We both have teams near contention and after current MLB assets, we both have near ready pitching and OF/C talent to trade. I just don’t see a trade happening unless your trying to dump salary on Street, and will accept a lower level talent (in terms of MiLB level being AA ball or lower, not in terms of actual ability, would be one of our B-/C+type toolsy prospects, Jenkins would be the obvious but we have a range to choose from)
interesting
can’t say i disagree. I have no idea what the jay’s farm looks like but from what people are saying its pretty good. Guess Morrow is out of the question.

With the Jays system
Just think of the Rockies system but double the depth of talent and you’d be pretty close. You have good catching, we have about twice as much though we both have one standout, you have good pitching, we have about twice as much though a lot of that is lower level, outfield, same deal. We both could use a good 2B prospect in the higher levels as well. Both also have a good international FA crop of talent, the Jays have just gone mental the last couple years and have added low end talent at about twice the rate of anyone but the Rays and Rangers.
hmm interesting

Trade Street for a B prospect, add that prospect to the Prado trade....Profit
