SBNation and Purple Row: Rookie of the Year
The NL and AL Rookie of the Year awards are going to be handed out by the BBWAA next week (11/14), so to make sure we beat them at their own game, SBNation and Purple Row have each done their own voting on the Rookie of the Year awards.
It was a tough year for voting, as there were many fine candidates, such as Daniel Descalso, Trevor Plouffe, and Aneury Rodriguez, but between all of our mixed expertise, we pulled together to make some coherent voting.

It's hard
when you’re as hyped as he was and then to have a rookie teammate break records thus overshadowing his good but not completely great season.

I think there are a lot of folks on the west coast who would take issue with this voting and view Mark Trumbo as the logical choice. He was truly clutch and the organization now has to find a spot for him with Morales returning to first and a crowded outfield.
29 home runs is nice and all, but he didn't do much in the 544 other at bats he had
as evidenced by a very subpar .291 on base percentage, 7th worst in all of MLB. He was definitely solid overall, but in no way was he the RoY this year, imo. All of the players on that list asserted themselves enough to require a roster spot in 2012.

AL - ROY
The vote will prove interesting. In the case of Mark Trumbo, when he hit home runs they were for the most part monster displays of power but more significant they were difference makers in Angel ballgames. Sometimes they were only to shift momentum, but some were game winners. He isn’t someone they need to find a roster spot for, their announcers were talking about having to have an every day position for him to play. In addition, because of the personnel shortages on the Angels at first, he played hurt for a part of the season and I believe finally was rested only when the Angels no longer were in the wild card race. Can you say the others were so integral a part of their team?
