Rockies 4, Athletics 1: Hammel, Iannetta Lead Colorado Past Oakland

Stay connected for news and updates

The powerhouse baseball sports team entitled the Colorado Rockies won yet again tonight, pushing their spring training record to 18-9, better than every other Major League team.  Which means nothing....

...except fans should actually be legitimately happy with this win.  They faced a quality starting pitcher in Trevor Cahill, who was 18-8 with a 2.97 ERA.  They faced a near Opening Day starting lineup, and some important players showed up for the Rockies.

Jason Hammel lowered his spring ERA to 2.60 with a 5.1 scoreless innings, striking out three, walking one and permitting four hits.  Matt Lindstrom and Franklin Morales each worked scoreless innings, though Morales did plunk Josh Willingham.

Perhaps most encouraging offensively was Chris Iannetta, who notched three singles in three at-bats.  Very quietly, he has had a very strong spring.  His current line: .355 batting average, .500 on base percentage and .548 slugging percentage.  I think we will take it.

Carlos Gonzalez also hit his first home run, which fortunately makes this tweet irrelevant.  Also, I earned $1.80 on a bet that the Rockies would win.  Go team!
