Rockies trade Michael McKenry to Boston for Daniel Turpen

Stay connected for news and updates

It's official, Michael McKenry is a Red Sock now. Quadzilla was traded earlier today in exchange for 24-year old AA reliever Daniel Turpen in an effort for both squads to improve their depth.

Boston, having lost Victor Martinez in free agency, are hoping that McKenry can provide a suitable backup if Jarrod Saltalamacchia or Jason Varitek prove to be unable to fulfill their duties as the Boston Backstop.

McKenry, 26, managed to walk once and strike out 5 times while going hitless in his 9 major-league PA. He did, however, manage to post a respectable .265/.357/.455 minor-league line. McKenry is really more the catch-and-throw type, so best of luck to him in Boston.

Turpen, who was acquired by Boston as part of the Ramon Ramirez trade, has all of 2.1 IP above AA, shows some decent strikeout material and passable control as well as decent amount of HR limitation. He's somewhat hittable, but he's posted decent FIPs in his minor league career (only 1 season over 4).

An unexciting return for a decent catching prospect, but we all wish Quadzilla the best going forward and welcome Turpen to the organization.
