Wednesday Pebble Report - Pitching Runs Dry, Ortega Just Runs
AAA Colorado Springs
Sky Sox 1, Aces 11
John Maine continues his AAA struggles, allowing 7 runs to cross over 4 innings with only 2 strikeouts and a walk. Yes, a single walk. Also 9 hits, including 1 homer and 1 double. Maine did get 1 flyout to 8 groundouts, however, so it seems he was victim of 1000 paper cuts. Bruce Billings pitched 2 no-hit innings with a strikeout and Rex Brothers pitched his own scoreless frame (2K, BB, H). These two relievers were merely bookending Sean White's 4-hit-4-run 2 innings, which included a homer and a triple.
The lone Sky Sox run came on a Mike Jacobs homer.
AA Tulsa Drillers
Drillers 0, Missions 6
Juan Nicasio pitched very well, striking out 6 over 5 innings while walking none, allowing 3 hits and 1 unearned run. Stephen Dodson was the only pitcher for Tulsa who didn't have a run cross on his 0.2IP watch. Keith Weiser allowed 1 over 2IP, Casey Weathers 2 over 0.1IP (thanks to a 2-run bomb from Cody Decker), and Karl Chris Malone allowed another 2 over 1IP (thanks to 2 doubles). Almost the saddest part was that the Missions had 15 baserunners and only converted 6 of them. Well, for them, anyhow.
High-A Modesto Nuts
Nuts 5, Blaze 3
Jerome Chad Bettis allowed 3 runs in 5.2 innings of work, as well as 6 hits, 7 punchouts, 1 walk, and 149 rushing yards on 33 attempts. Eliezer Mesa stole 2 bases and Delta Cleary stole one of his own, while Nolan Arenado, Kent Matthes, and Joseph Sanders all had multi-hit days. All Hail Scott Gaffney, who blew the lead, allowing 2 runs over 1.1IP.
A Asheville Tourists
Tourists 3, Power 6
Not a great day for Tourists pitching. Joshua Slaats, Joshua Mueller, and Rafael Suarez allowed 2 runs apiece, and the staff allowed 13 baserunners over the course of the game. Kyle Parker had 2 hits and Dustin Garneau hit a homer. And yes, Rafael Ortega stole 4 bases, bringing his season SB total to: 4.

Jerome Bettis
…I would watch that.

Is that four tacos in your pocket, or are you just happy to see the Rockies scoring 7 or more runs?

Bettis
Man, this kid is going to rise very quick in our system. He will be knocking on the door by the middle of next year. And I expect to see him in the top 100 prospect list by next year.
Alan Johnson
was pulled from his start today in AAA in case the Rockies need him to pitch on Sunday.
oh god are you serious?

I'll actually be glad if it is him
He is a non-prospect, but he isn’t a cadaver. He had decent enough numbers before pitching two years on the moon, and he has paid his dues in the organization. And if he is going to get the call, it might as well be against a team like the cubs when all we need is a warm body to throw five innings.

I...have tickets for Sunday.
I’m so conflicted on the matter.
Who knew that Muzia’s love is like a rock tied to your feet, dragging you to the bottom of the ocean?
Some days, I feel like I’ve accidentally entered the Church of Tulowitzki on Baseball Easter.
Serious Avs fan. Yes, I have health insurance.
SB Nation Denver
Bettis is my favorite prospect.
Score a goal. Unit. Basket. Go squadron! Do good! Defeat the opponents soundly in this...skirmish.
He is injured, minor hamstring issue
They placed him on the inactive list (not the DL), which frees up a roster spot. He has to be on the inactive list for three days. If he were more seriously hurt, he would be on the DL. So he should be back in action this weekend.

One thing about pebble reports like todays
Is that despite some crappy results, it seems almost all the genuine prospects did well. That’ll do me.
