The Opening Day Loss Was My Fault

Every season, sometime during the week leading up to opening day, I make sure to watch the movie Major League . . . but I dropped the ball this year.

I have on the road on Vancouver Island for work and was supposed to return Thursday afternoon, leaving plenty of time to watch the movie Thursday night and go to the game on Friday. Unfortunately, things with work took longer than expected (stupid rainy Pacific Northwest) and my return was delayed until today; we all saw the problems that caused.

So when I saw the result of the game last night (6-7 loss), that Ubaldo's elbow is sore after game 1, and Tulo went 0-5, I immediately knew I had let the team, all you Rowbots, and all Rockies fans everywhere down. On top of all that, my flight out of Victoria International Airport was scheduled for 6:00 AM this morning, getting me to Denver by noon . . . plenty of time to get home and watch the movie, right? That's what I thought, but there were mechanical problems and the next series of flights wouldn't get me to Denver until 6:00 tonight. Too late to watch the movie prior to the game.

Fortunately, I found an InMotion (those in-airport movie rentals) and it had Major League in stock! What are the odds of that? Probably not the most popular rental among the masses right now. Anyway, so I'm watching the WIld Thing (apropos, as it turns out) come in from the pen as I type this. Assuming I don't unexpectedly lose power or have some crazy health issue, I'll be finished watching it in approximately 18:30 minutes. Now that this fiasco is behind us and I've brought the universe into karmic realignment, I feel comfortable saying I think Jorge will pitch well and Tulo will get a hit or two tonight . . . and the good guys will get their first win.

Lesson learned: always carry the DVD with me for the month leading up to the start of the season . . . just in case. Anyway, sorry I dropped the ball all. Cheer them on tonight until I can get there!
