I'm convinced that the wave has a much better likelihood of being successful
and continuing for an extended period of time when Betancourt is on the mound. Every time I notice it like this, Raffy is pitching. I think his pace is just too slow for a lot of people who otherwise would not be paying any attention to the wave.

It really makes me sad
Cause I love ‘em. I just blew my last wad of dough on them, and was really pumped to see them play in the midst of a winning streak. Tough love some years. I want every freaking guy on the team to be successful, I want every game to have a bright side, and I want them to hoist a trophy during my lifetime. But it’s so hard to wait when you don’t know if the package will ever come.

It's frustrating (insert adj of choice) for sure,
but that is not the only reason we are fans: WS or bust. I know that, I know a lot of people know that.
But it’s very sad to be seeing people “moving on” to things that are more important, and they are. It’s just sad that the current state really does justify that.

There's always a little bit of both
Coming into the year, I thought the Rox were a 92-win team. I think they’re a 90-win team now, but with only 98 games left and 4-under, their luck has made them into an 84 win team again.

There's a decent amt of talent on many teams.
Dodgers this year; Brewers the last few. But the probs with this team are deep, and the best talent on the team has not performed at “star” level, luck or no.
And I consider star players not performing on star level = underachievers

I think the rockies play better when I am not here. I am going to give it a break for a few days. Further more just from a Optomism point of view I feel people here are putting on more of a self-fulfilling doom prophecy. Such as the plethora of comments above. Yes its hard to watch but honestly we have been hit by bad luck more often then we deserved this year so far. Even so we are still very much within reach of a turnaround. (which is amazing considering we are below .500) Have some faith Purple Row we can do this. GO ROCKIES!

there may be some bad luck involved, but when you are the worst (or at least one of the worst) team in baseball for 2 months, a lot more things than bad luck are involved. The reality is that this team just isn’t very good. Hopefully they turn it around, but it’s not looking too good
I have seen this team play good
You have to have talent to play baseball at this level. Yes there are some things going on with players but we have been smacking the ball hard. We are what 6 games back? Last year we were 10 or so and caught up.
This season is not over and the Rockies will play better. We are not the worst team in baseball yet. Like I said above we could do with a little more optimism.

Like how we scored more the three runs in the dodger series?
How about cook pitching a very good ball game? Or how about cargo starting to look better at the plate? Helton being nearly 40 and hitting above .300. Nelson being up from triple A and looking good. Same for blackmon. A rookie pitcher that throws left handed high 90’s?
There are a lot of things that people could focus on. Doom and gloom are just easier I guess. I am sick of that outlook and honestly. Especially when the game is not over.

All of the other thing you mention are nice
But we need to win some games. I can be optimistic about Cook’s outing and Helton’s numbers when that’s the subject but I see no reason to have a positive outlook on the potential result of the game in the 8th and 9th innings right now. There’s nothing the Rockies have done this year in those spots that makes me think something good is about to happen there.
(Overall I think the outlook is more positive)

Something has definitely changed from a year ago...
Last year no matter what towards the end of the game we made it interesting. This year we might as well score all of our runs in the first 5 innings or else we get nothing in the last 4.

Losing is still a potential result of the game
My whole point is probably that it shouldn’t kill people to act optimistic. We have just had three or four games in the last 5 that we have scored in comeback fashion.
Yes our pitching exploded in the last two but we still had opportunity. I wasn’t here for those games but I can almost guaranty that several people were saying “here comes a pop up” Or “can you see a K with the bases loaded coming up”
That stuff is beyond old and in my opinion off putting to the community here. Unfortunately it seems contagious.

When Ubaldo was “dealing” last week against these Padres, he still ended up with the loss. Other pitchers are dealing against us and we loss.

Unfortunate and frustrating as that may be
Eventually, just hitting the baseball all the time will pay off. I don’t care about K’s with RISP anymore, because this team isn’t generating tons of RISP to begin with, LAD series aside.
Really, there is no verifiable difference between hitting with or without RISP, in terms of results/performance. Why try to make it a bigger deal?

With the lineup they have tonight Helton, CDI, Tulo, Cargo, Smith, and Wiggy all have a career OPS+ of at least 100 and Blackmon and Nelson are both hitting the ball as well as anyone and show promise.
How is that below average?

Good point
But I think that within the context of one year, you can’t expect everyone to be at or above their career lines. I think Smith and CDI are legit, but Helton’s back could take him out any day now. Wiggy hasn’t been the same since 2007, and while Tulo and CarGo can carry a team at times, you can’t always have BABIP on your side.

Not one who’s true talent level is “probably a below-average hitting team”. That’s what frustrates me. When I first started watching the Rockies, they would almost always lose and I was OKay with that because they didn’t have to tools to contend – it was about growing. Now that they do have the tools, seeing them underperform is breaking my heart.
