Who doesn't?

There are no apostrophes in plurals.
A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...
There are no apostrophes in plurals.

Except a few days ago, when it was stuffed full of leftover sausage and meatballs from my party. There’s only a bag of marinating meat for dinner now.

Hah. Keith Law's tweet was wrong about the Dodgers.

Good. I hate when picks are spoiled before they’re read at the podium. It has all but ruined the NFL draft for me, and it looks to be creeping in slightly here for the MLB draft.

From PR's draft preview....

Tyler Anderson

6’4" 215lbs

Bats L, Throws L

RHP Oregon

When evaluating a pitcher, at either a pre-draft or a prospect level, we tend to buy too much into velocity. A guy who pitches in the low 90’s can sometimes be written off as low quality. Tyler Anderson is a pitcher who bucks that trend. Anderson’s fastball sits in the low 90’s, usually around 91-92. He can reach back and get another mph or two, but what you see is what you get. A deceptive delivery adds some perceived velocity to the pitch, but it will never have the velocity to overpower batters. He is a legitimate first round pick because of his polished control and four above average pitches. He features a standard slider, curve, changeup mix to keep batters consistently off balance. He locates each pitch well, and features life to his fastball. His upside is that of a reliable #2 or #3 in the rotation. He is considered slot-signable and should move through a system very quickly. You can compare him a bit to Phillies co-co-co-co-ace Cliff lee. There is not guarantee he will ever be that good, but the upside exists.

kinda sounds like Friedrich's report

lefty that’s polished without too much development left.

But he does have a funky delivery – kind of ubaldo-ish in the sense that his arm flings back and low

Two things: he’s signable, meaning the Rockies could be setting themselves up for a gamble in the sandwich round or later, where they’ve done well. And I like the arsenal and the willingness to pitch inside, but there’s a lot of funk in that delivery on the leg kick that I’m not too fond of. Still, I’m good with the pick all the way around.

I always thought it was because they really liked Reynolds and considered him to be more signable. Or that Longoria was a staunch atheist who blanched at the thought of playing for God’s Team. One of those two.

The revisionist history of the pick would lead you to believe that Reynolds just wasn’t any good and nobody even considered him a top-5 pick, which is not true. Reynolds was good. If his shoulder would have stayed in one piece I think he could have been pretty solid. But, again, hindsight.

Oh, man.

He’s just getting the feel for pitching. He’s going to be unhittable once a MLB pitching coach/instructor gets to him.

‘what the hell were we thinking’. I just think tall pitchers get over-valued like crazy – and then guys who are like 6’ are automatically injury prone…

Yeah, there were definitely

rumors that Longoria didn’t like the perceived Christian theme to the Rockies.

Of course, I don’t recall all the rumors on draft day 2006 since I had jury duty. Probably better that I did. Would have keeled over when Reynolds was announced.

Pacheco

likely isn’t a future catcher, more of a super util. We also have Will Swanner, but he’s so far away and far from developed behind the plate.

You take the best player available that you can sign. If you’ve got three great catchers coming up at once and they all pan out to be studs, stick one at first base and trade the third, or put him in right field. You draft for talent, period.

SS- It seems like no matter where he goes he will stay there, unlike some other SS. He is fantastic defensively but there are major concerns about his bat. Signability is difficult as he is committed to LSU. With this Tulo would move to third

by jlbroxfan on Jun 6, 2011 8:47 PM MDT reply actions

Yes, it is a fait accompli that Troy Tulowitzki’s days at shortstop are numbered, and that he will move aside the moment Trevor Story signs because that is precisely how the draft works and there is no such thing as the minor leagues and nobody gets better or gets any coaching and this is just like the NBA!

Major concerns about his bat?

Everything I’ve read about Story indicates he has power potential, but will need to continue to refine his swing. I’m not sure where the light-hitting comment came from.

by mattrob on Jun 6, 2011 8:50 PM MDT up reply actions

I've seen this....

""Going in, he stays at shortstop," a National League scout said. “He has a good range and a plus arm. He’s a below-average power guy for pro ball, but he’s a good hitter. He has bat speed and puts the bat on the ball.”

He sounds like a Clint Barmes to me

Can we lay off of Cargo and Tulo until their BABIP numbers get with 50 points of their career averages?

NO, we are NOT going to fire Jim Tracy midseason!!!!!

Oh if only they would have asked you or jlbroxfan! Or if they’d just read Baseball America! “MAYBE he develops power? Only MAYBE? Well, the hell with this guy!” they’d say. “These message board commenters who have never seen these guys play are right!”

So freaking what? Are you telling me ‘birthplace’ and ‘power potential’ have that much correlation with ‘final result’? Are you sure? Really sure?

Can you not see any humor?

At all? Are you this thick?

Of course they aren’t they same guy, but it’s worthy of snark. I hope and pray Story turns out better.

DOD has a penchant for retrying past failed picks. Big righty from Stanford Jason Young a bust. So with the 2nd overall pick years later he take a big righty from Stanford, Greg Reynolds.

Let’s just say some picks have rhymed.

I'm not a rah rah type.

You’re less tolerable because nearly every one of your comments is negative. If you had a history of being even a little bit balanced in any comments, it would be easier to read some comments as just snark.

Not negative, my dear Holly....

Objectivity is too often construed as negativity. Judging me as negative is, itself, a subjective and negative comment.

Yes, Holly, you do just that...

If it makes you feel bigger and better than me as a fan.

Feel free to put words into my mouth.

I haven’t said a word about anybody’s level of investment in the team or anybody being a better fan.

But I’m done here.

Not fair, really.....

Similarities really mean nothing at this stage. We won’t know about any of these guys for at least a year or two.

by evers44 on Jun 6, 2011 8:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Not sure what everyone wants here...

Anderson in the 1st round doesn’t have the ceiling, everyone wants risk/reward talent. Then, the Rox grab Story, a raw but talented HS middle infielder that was in the discussion for some of those late 1st round picks, and he’s gonna bust because he doesn’t have a complete game yet? He’s not a polished prospect, but the upside is there.

From Baseball America

“Story is a good athlete with the potential to stick at short. He has good movement in the field and a good arm. Story has the potential to hit for power and average speed. His work ethic is one of his biggest assets. There is also potential in Story’s arm as he has been as high as 96 this year.”

Spankees will have to take Bell or Norris, I think

There are no apostrophes in plurals.
A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...

I know some here will be devastated

I feel like we just dodged a major bullet. Of course, I’m not a fan of the EYJr nostalgia effect, or that nostalgic for Dante, Sr.

We're trying to win a (#)(*@$%#)@#&$#)^ argument here!!!!

Whatever the manager does is wrong, unless it works. Then he's a button pusher.

If Jr. is half the professional hitter the old man was.....

…he’ll have a nice career.

I loved me some Dante. One of my all time favorite Rockies.

by evers44 on Jun 6, 2011 8:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Loved Dante

and I was really hoping we would snag him in the 2nd round. His Bat is for real, and i think he will have a nice career. Hopefully he goes to school and can be drafted by us in 2 years.

It's Jim Tracy's Fault.

by wolf213 on Jun 6, 2011 9:21 PM MDT up reply actions

He has a long way to go

Raw, is what I would call him. There are better bat only prospects available.

I agree

I think the Yankees reached for him, but he would be perfect at 2.20

I was hoping for a bit more upside

from out sup. pick. But, there is a ton of talent still available on the board. Will they go all out for Norris or Bell, considering they don’t project to spend much on the first two picks. Dickerson or Westlake still remain, both would bolster the thin corner infield in the system. There is still a lot to chose from with the 77th overall pick coming up tomorrow.
