So last night we got beat. Bad. We threw out our worst case scenario line-up against the ace of the Atlanta Braves. It isn't a surprise how bad we played. But what has surprised me lately is the amount of negative energy around here.
I know I know - the Rockies just aren't making things much fun around here (as our good friend Franchise26 wrote about here on SB Nation Denver. So I decided to apply a lesson from my years and years of therapy (yeah you all thought I was crazy - now you have proof..but seriously therapy rocks and everyone should go.) and take a step back, breathe and think about the positive right now, instead of our sad record. I started to do some of this in last nights gamethread - and a few of you joined in with me. So I would like to make this the official (not actually official because of this: Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).
So here we go:
On the plus side...
Todd Helton is having a fantastic season in the twilight of his career with us. We should be honored and happy that he still plays in the purple pinstripes.
Mark Ellis has given us a nice spark at second base when we desperately needed it.
Juan Nicasio is doing much better than most of us had anticipated for his first MLB season.
Tulo will be with us for a long time. Think about that - the best SS (if not the best player) in baseball right now will most likely be with us until he retires from baseball.
Coors Field. 81 times a year each and every one of us has the chance to watch a game in one of the best stadiums in the league. I still get goosebumps when I push my way through the turnstiles, and a huge uncontrollable smile spreads across my face when I see that outfield grass.
Hebrew National Hot Dogs (did you really think that I could make a fanpost and not mention hotdogs?). Monster Nachos, Tornadoughs, Beer. All part of a fantastic baseball experience - no matter how bad the home team plays.
Chacin has really stepped up when we needed him to.
Purple Row - is there a better community to be a part of? I've made some fantastic friends from this place - and the staff has made me a much better baseball fan. I always blow my friends away with my baseball knowledge, most of I learned from Andrew and Andrew thanks for all the work you guys do!
And last but not least...
At least we aren't Cubs fans.
So please, do me a favor - before we go off on how bad Tracy has mismanaged the team, or dreaming about Ian not slopping enough hogs in the springs - take a step back. Breathe. And think about all the good baseball has done for you - and think about the good that this team has done this year.
