On The Plus Side...

So last night we got beat. Bad. We threw out our worst case scenario line-up against the ace of the Atlanta Braves. It isn't a surprise how bad we played. But what has surprised me lately is the amount of negative energy around here.

I know I know - the Rockies just aren't making things much fun around here (as our good friend Franchise26 wrote about here on SB Nation Denver. So I decided to apply a lesson from my years and years of therapy (yeah you all thought I was crazy - now you have proof..but seriously therapy rocks and everyone should go.) and take a step back, breathe and think about the positive right now, instead of our sad record. I started to do some of this in last nights gamethread - and a few of you joined in with me. So I would like to make this the official (not actually official because of this: Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

So here we go:

On the plus side...

Todd Helton is having a fantastic season in the twilight of his career with us. We should be honored and happy that he still plays in the purple pinstripes.

Mark Ellis has given us a nice spark at second base when we desperately needed it.

Juan Nicasio is doing much better than most of us had anticipated for his first MLB season.

Tulo will be with us for a long time. Think about that - the best SS (if not the best player) in baseball right now will most likely be with us until he retires from baseball.

Coors Field. 81 times a year each and every one of us has the chance to watch a game in one of the best stadiums in the league.  I still get goosebumps when I push my way through the turnstiles, and a huge uncontrollable smile spreads across my face when I see that outfield grass.

Hebrew National Hot Dogs (did you really think that I could make a fanpost and not mention hotdogs?). Monster Nachos, Tornadoughs, Beer. All part of a fantastic baseball experience - no matter how bad the home team plays.

Chacin has really stepped up when we needed him to.

Purple Row - is there a better community to be a part of? I've made some fantastic friends from this place - and the staff has made me a much better baseball fan. I always blow my friends away with my baseball knowledge, most of I learned from Andrew and Andrew thanks for all the work you guys do!

And last but not least...

At least we aren't Cubs fans.

So please, do me a favor - before we go off on how bad Tracy has mismanaged the team, or dreaming about Ian not slopping enough hogs in the springs - take a step back. Breathe. And think about all the good baseball has done for you - and think about the good that this team has done this year.

Looking forward to reading your "on the plus side" comments below!

Thanks for this Maria. I saw your commentss yesterday and they kinda inspired me. This fanpost is perfect.

So on the plus side…

The grass is still green, the sky is still blue, it’s summer outside, and there’s baseball being played. I am a baseball fan- a fan of the most wonderful game in the world, where anything can happen and it is impossible to predict. I am a fan of one of the most classy organizations. I love watching my favorite players swing, throw, and run. I especially like it when they wear the purple uniforms.
This is what I have to be grateful for: I have eyes that can see and ears that can listen to the radio and witness a group of guys try to score more runs than the other team. No matter what- there’s always another game to be played, and it doesn’t care what happened yesterday. Bad roadtrip? Come home where the air is thin and light and the hometeam will still play in front of the crowd while the sun sets in the background. Season over? Playoff chances dashed? We don’t have to worry about the team not playing next year, so there is always a next year. And we have a valid reason to not give up, because this is baseball, afterall. There’s 27 times one hundred and sixty-two chances to make something awesome happen.
I still love talking baseball. I think Purple Row is the best place to do that. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best. We are all part of a group that is knowledgeable and passionate about this game, and the players who play it. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Everybody likes holding balloons. You just have to be careful not to let go or somebody else might grab them, or they’ll simply float off.

What everyone else has already said, plus:

I still love me some Rockies. I loved ‘em when they were far worse than they are now, and I’m a-gonna love ’em tomorrow.

Purple has always been my favorite color, and I have a ton of purple Rockies shirts and other stuff.

There’s a run coming. The Rockies are going to catch fire at some point and that’s always a blast, whether they’re still in it or not.

Maria made a fabulous and much needed FanPost. Thank you!

Todd Helton is getting the recognition he deserves by being up for the Final Vote and proving to everyone that he can still play great baseball! Love the Toddfather!!

Still have one of the most classy teams in all of baseball.

Despite struggling this year to find their identity, this team is built to win and I truly believe it will in the next 5 years, just you wait!

Tulo and CarGo are locked up for a while in purple pinstripes.

There is no better place to find Rockies coverage than at the Row — a place that unites Rox fans worldwide.

Helton just surpassed 2000 games in a ROCKIES UNIFORM. Not many players can say that.

One plus I forgot
I still get goosebumps when I push my way through the turnstiles, and a huge uncontrollable smile spreads across my face when I see that outfield grass.

I literally tear up every time I go to Coors Field. There is such joy for me there. And as an added plus, Rockies games are still affordable for this middle-class guy. Second best place on earth for me. (Jenny Lake at the base of the Cathedral Group in Grand Teton National Park has an unbreakable grip on my heart.)

While I can’t throw a baseball for 6 weeks I won’t have to have surgery that I know of…

Todd didn’t make it to the ASG but now he gets to go home and relax with his wife and daughters for a couple days…

Baseball is fun to: watch, play, analyze, collect (cards) and generally enjoy…

It’s currently raining outside…

I get to watch the Braves Rockies on my birthday at the only Coors Field

On The Plus Side...

I am gainfully employed and get to do what I went to school for in about 6 weeks.

I have 3 wonderfully healthy children that surprise me every day (my wife called me before my golf game yesterday and told me that my 3 year old correctly identified a diamond shape as a rhombus).

I get to travel to Denver to go see my first Rockies game in person this September against the Giants.

Not only will it be my first game, but I am going to be able to take all three of my children to Coors field.

This community exists to express my joy and frustration which is way better than internalizing it.

I live in a country where I have so little to worry about that my biggest concern is how the Rockies are doing.
