I have no idea how to do these fanshots. Here is what I posted.
Question: Why hasn’t there been more talk of, at the very least, moving Wheeler up to AAA, especially given the situation with Blackmon’s injury and Garner’s call-up?
Is it possible that Wheeler, a plus fielder with speed, could provide the kind of punch from the corner outfield position that could help the Rockies make a second-half run?
Does the answer hide in the numbers? Does Wheeler strike out too much, does his swing translate at the big league level?
Tim Wheeler 316/398/603 K : 26.4 BB: 9.8 BABIP: 372
Dexter Fowler 2008 Tulsa: 335/431/515 BABIP: 405 K : 21.1 BB: 12.9 (called up to major leagues 108 games)
Chris Iannetta Tulsa: 321/418/622 k %: 16.7 BB % 13 (played just 41 games before moving up to AAA where all of his numbers went down)
CarGo: 286/330/476 K 22.5 bb 6.4 BABIP: 333
And just for fun comparison ( I know not all of these translate very well)
Todd Helton 1996 New Haven (AA): 332/425/486
Matt Holliday 2003 Tulsa: 253/313/395
Larry Walker 1987 Jacksonville (AA): 287/383/534
Jack Cust 2003 El Paso (AA): 293/440/526
Prince Fielder (AA): 272/366/473
Ken Griffey Junior (AA): 273/353/492 (18 years old)
Joey Votto (AA): 319/408/547
Matt Kemp: 327/402/528(AA) (moved to AAA after 48 games)
Joe Mauer (AA): 341/400/453
Chipper Jones (AA): 346/367/594
Mark McGwire (AA): 303/427/533 (moved up to AAA 55 games in)
Miguel Cabrera (AA): 365/429/609 (called up to big leagues 69 games)
David Wright (AA): 363/467/619 (moved to AAA 60 games)
Frank Thomas: 323/487/581 (called up after 109 games)
I think it's the k rate
plus the fact that it’s not like he’s blown through previous levels.
Let him get comfortable and get his swing in check (and reduce the k’s maybe?). Plus the longer I follow this team, the more I start to think that AAA doesn’t really offer our players anything except some goofy hitting environment where they can learn to play the game in a way that doesn’t so seamlessly translate to the majors…
