Ubaldo, Rockies, Starbucks & Cats
In light of this season premature declaration of failure, better known as the trading of Ubaldo Jimenez for a few 'pieces of silver', I feel compel to bury my head in the sand and ignore the remainder of this season and the next. The Rockies getting four top pick draft picks for a meagerly paid ACE pitcher is not a good deal. Dan O'Dowd sold the farm way too early, trading Ubaldo away traded away at least two seasons.
I am extremely pessimistic of next season and the next one after...I do not care how much potential talent our four top draft picks are talked up, Ubaldo was a proven commodity. He was like a mocha at Starbucks that everybody look forward to having when he was pitching. Instead, we as Rockies fan, are left despondent , with no good baseball to enjoy in Denver till 2013 at the earliest. Meanwhile, it is raining cats and dogs today....
Speaking about cats....
So for all you Rockies fans who just don't care anymore...please join me on this tangent and sign this petition to get pictures of cats on Starbucks cups. Maybe by 2013 Starbucks will put pictures of cats on Starbucks cups and the Rockies will be in contention again. It's the least I can do to distract myself from the pain of the next one and half seasons; won't you join me and sign this petition too?

I just can't get with this line of thinking
The Rockies getting four top pick draft picks for a meagerly paid ACE pitcher is not a good deal. Dan O’Dowd sold the farm way too early, trading Ubaldo away traded away at least two seasons.
There is absolutely no way to know that. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. But I have a hard time believing that he did. At least one, and probably both, will be in the rotation next year. And they will struggle. They will also likely dazzle us.
I haven’t seen any reports about command issues, which is awesome. At most, I think they are losing one year. 2013 is a year away.
Ubaldo is paid a small salary, but it’s still something like $17M over the next three seasons. That is money that can be used on a 3B or some other 6-hole bat that could likely be very useful. Wigginton’s $4M comes off the books after next year, and Helton’s salary (I think somewhere around $5M) comes off the books after that.
Yes, it’s a team-friendly deal. But, those kids may just be great ones. Sure, there’s risk. But it frees up money this offseason, it frees up money next offseason, and it frees up money the following offseason.
These moves cannot be looked at in a vacuum. I have a feeling that this is not the last trade we’ll see. It’s not like A-Rod’s contract coming off the books, but it does free up money to chase a bat, with two potentially excellent starters coming in.
Low-cut blouses are looked down upon in this establishment.
after just 3 days,
“The Rockies getting four top pick draft picks for a meagerly paid ACE pitcher is not a good deal.”
this line is getting very, very tired.
the only organization of humans responsible for more evil in the universe than the philadelphia phillies is the boston red sox
lets just use our 2012 money for something good and not another wigginton
The truth hurts....
right now we are all numbed to it. Talent like Ubaldo is more rare than the prospects we have gotten. It is an entelechy. Even though Drew and Alex are top of of the line prospects, they are still prospects. They are not a sure a thing.
The Rockies have the hardest time developing pitching talent among ALL the major league teams. It frustarates me that they did this trade EVEN though they did get some great talent…I don’t think the talent is good enough. It is a simple fact, the altitude difference in home and away games kills pitcher mechanics. Bob Appodaca, stresses to his pitchers NOT to practice pitching at home, it so bad. It is a hard thing for many pitchers to learn how to pitch at altitude, Ubaldo learn how to deal with it, but will Alex and Drew learn?
I hope I am wrong but the optimist inside of me is very angry these days, especially since the trade went down. Anyway, not to beat a dead cat, papality, but…I am just saying we got the short end of the stick in this deal.
P.S.
Have you liked the petition yet?

Literally every objective evaluator I’ve seen disagrees with you on this point.
Does Jeff Passan counts?
He said we are ‘tweeners’ whatever that means.
I could be eating my words in about one year, but it seems like we have similar situation like this happen before. How many good starting pitching propsects have we gotten through trades? 0
The best starting pitching talent the Rockies have been developed in house thoughout the years have been in house ala Jason Jennings, Aaron Cook, Ubaldo, and Jholy Chacin. Unfortunately, we have a very small sample size of pitchers because of the Rockies short history as club. I am admittingly intrigue if Dan O’Dowd would try to to sign a ‘relatively’ big name pitcher again and see the pitcher pitches well at Coors.

Not to get in the middle of this, because I'm neutral until I see what happens over the next couple months to year, but:
Absolutely not, Jeff Passan’s opinion does not count! He’s a hack.
Do you remember anything he wrote in the offseason surrounding the Tulo, Cargo extensions? Making ridiculous absolute statements and then reversing stance days later. All he knows about the Rockies is that they’re not of any concern to him.

That means the Rockies were neither winners or losers at the deadline. nothing more.
As far as Tulo is concerned, his extension should be questioned IMO. Yes we all like him, and want him tied down for a while, b

but I’m starting to get concerned with his late inning “high pressure” AB’s where he doesn’t come through.
Put another way, a big extension should be reserved for young players that produce in the clutch and I believe Tulo has a lot of room for improvement in that regard.

I can't wait to link this fanpost next July
when we have the youngest, most talented rotation in the major leagues.
