WAR - what is it good for
Article suggesting WAR is as flawed a statistical measure as RBI & that (heresy to most sabremetricians) it isn't reliable as a single-stat evaluator for players. UZR defects affect WAR, as to overweighting of players who play multiple positions, even if they do so (Carlos Lee) to hide defensive weaknesses.

If you read his follow-up, he clarifies that WAR is in no way near as flawed a statistical measure as RBI
The parallel was meant only to illustrate an over-reliance on WAR as there was on RBI two decades ago. Even as a huge backer of WAR, I have agreed with that thought for a long time.

Sigh
I don’t know how openly the stat guys need to say “WAR is a flawed metric” before it’ll get through that most of us don’t consider it to be the end-all-be-all.
That said, UZR certainly helped Ben Zobrist’s 2009 campaign.
