This game is way more fun if you play it a little dangerous. It’ll help me win this year for sure. In 5-10 sims the braves never won the division with their current team. So…..I changed things up. IT should make for an interesting next few years. A-Rod, Heyward, Freeman makes a hell of an infield. This game has lots of budget room, so I’m not worried. There is also a good chance this falls through.

But the real roster braves were 1-5 in PRMLB too. You can look, none of the guys i traded are doing all that well (I’m sure someone will find an example but for the most part they aren’t). I wanted to shake things up. I liked a lot of guys on this team, but I really don’t regret a single deal I’ve made.

Interesting approach
especially since Atlanta isn’t really a high spending, high revenue team. I have no clue who you have on your team and how that compares to the team prior to the trades but you seem to have a lot of high potential arms now. Truthfully, I would’ve preferred to have kept Hanson over Poms and White but still could work for you.

Hanson has had an ERA over 5 all year long.
He wasn’t worth anything to me this year and I was concerned about his development going forward. Also, I just enjoy playing this game with a lot of trading. It’s more fun than standing pat. Especially when it’s with real people.

playing Prado at SS isn’t helping that. His numbers are great but you could hit home runs with both Poms and White.

In my (limited) experience with OOTP
Prospects can nosedive very quickly – my scouts will think a guy is a TOR starter one day, and then all the sudden he’s just a one-star pitcher. I figured if I could turn all that uncertainty into a solid pitcher, it’d be a safer bet than waiting on both Pom (who the game really doesn’t love anyway) and White to turn into something. Plus I’ve still got Knapp in the pipeline.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
There will be no sim this Thursday.
The Trade Deadline is Sunday.
The trade deadline is the only time in which I will trade players in the middle of sim. All trades must be finalized by 7PM on Sunday. I will then sim Saturday 7/30 and all Sunday games on 7/31. After that I will make the deadline trades, then sim Monday 8/1.
Make sure that your trade is acceptable and, if you are taking on salary, that you have the budget to accommodate the new players. Trades that do not go through will not be resubmitted after the deadline.

This game *shakes head*
I had a good look at my team last night, and of my starting 8, the only one I’m not happy with is Miguel Tejada (who went 3-for-3 with a 3-run homer against the Phillies). The only pitcher I’m not happy with is Barry Zito Shawn Hill, but I’m not sure I can justify the effort involved in getting an expensive 5th starter.
And yet I am 12 games behind the accurs’d Rockies and not showing any signs of picking up. The young players I have blooded are doing terribly (Brandon Belty excepted, though his first half was pretty poor too) and I certainly don’t have anyone better knocking down my door. I don’t think this team has a very long window.
Anyway, as you’re all my rivals I don’t expect advice, but just thought I’d vent a little.

The other thing is I can’t think of who to trade! I hinted earlier in the season that Timmeh might be available but perhaps people rightly thought I’d want the moon for him. (contenders, I still do want the moon – call me).
I have some shit-hot relievers and could probably spare one or two – Romo anyone? But I need high-end prospects as that’s what I’m lacking most.

Yeah great week for both
Floyd picked up two wins. Thornton pitched in three games and didn’t give up a run.
It's always good when a trade works out for both teams.
Lars was moved to LF I’m going to bat him 3rd vs rightys and hopefully he mashes. The other guys are all hurt on the DL..Most of the other guys i acquired are hurt with little injuries nothing serious.

OK, so against all odds, we Padres are Petco-ing our way into the playoff race, which means that we’re a buyer this trade season. So my trading block is going to look more prospect-y. Except for one guy.
P – Heath Bell can be had for the right deal, since he’s a FA this offseason and I have plenty of relief pitching depth to replace him with.

Petro-Had a question regarding the swapping of players and cash I was hoping you could clarify. I wanted to see if it’s possible to send cash to a team for a player on a year to year basis just like in the MLB.
So if I dealt a player and agreed to eat X dollars per season is that an option?

I have problems depending on where i try and download/upload the files.
No idea why but I have no problems when I do this at work but it never goes through when I do it at home. Could be a faster network? Like I said I have no idea why and I am sure this won’t really help but thought I would throw it out there.
Well I dont think I have had problems until my business trip for training
instead of my comcast internet I have the hotels which is horrible and barely allows for nomal netflix streaming and such. Could this be my problem?

I've noticed the file doesn't always load completely..
especially if there isn’t a strong network signal. In my case if 162mb doesn’t download I have to do it again until the right size file is on my computer. Also, I’ve had better luck with my WindowsXP laptop than my Vista Desktop. The Macs are infecting us is my belief.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Edwin Jackson turned down a three-year offer form the Pirates.
The proposal was reportedly worth around $30 million. E-Jax instead chose to sign a one-year, $11 million contract with Washington, where he’ll be starting around half of his games in a pitcher-friendly environment. The hard-throwing right-hander can hit the free agent market again in the fall at the age of 29.

(structured a bit differently) but instead of a 4th year with the player option I offered a team option with a $2million buyout. I had the feeling the guaranteed 4th year would get it done but just couldn’t bring myself to do it. On balance you got a good pitcher right around his actual value.

I think something is screwy. I tried to load the latest file, I guess I may have done it a bit early, and now the game is all screwy. It didn’t really update much, but now I have 121 million to use for extensions, it claims I have the latest file, and it crashes whenever I try to do anything. Oh well, I’ll figure it out tomorrow.

My computer shut down in the middle of a download and now when I go to re-download it, it says that there is no updated files available. How do I delete the things it did download so that it will grab the most recent sim?

Ahhh Crud ... please help.
I was negotiating an extension with Cutch and he keeps turning down my longterm deals asking for a one year deal. I accidentally clicked < submit offer > on his exorbitant one-year demand. I want to know if I can undo this … preferably without pissing him off but if that happens so be it as I am not paying an pre-arb player $11 million for one season.
What do I do? As I understand it if I close the game out it will Auto-save, and I can’t even find the negotiation screen where you can withdraw an offered contract (realizing this would piss him off).
PS I hate these touch sensitve mouse pads on Dell laptops!

You should be able to delete your file and redownload and be back to where you were last night

Then follow the instructions in the setup thread like you did the first time.
Actually, I think you don't need to delete the whole save file
Just delete the time-stamp file. That’s the smaller file that tells the server whether your game is up-to-date. If you delete it you should be able to redownload the file without going through the full setup.

I actually loaded up my backup file, saved it as a different game, copied over Petro’s settings file, deleted the original game, renamed the new game to match and redownloaded the new sim file. it worked, but I’d rather not go through that obstacle course again.

It’s challenging with the payroll limitations, and failing to sign Cole didn’t help, but I like the guys in the farm system and I think we’ll contend in 2013, with a shot at the playoffs in 2012.

Taking on soriano, but yeah my chances this year kind of dwindled when Soto is the only starter to be healthy the entire season. Worst of all though is the fact that half of my top prospects have been injured as well. Jackson has played less than 50 games and my pick, Lindor was out for a month only 3-4 games into his career! I haven’t downloaded the most recent SIM but I had Peavy on a rehab assignement and it must have ended during the most recent sim and it designated him for assignment. Anyone had that issue before? I hope this doesn’t mean he’s been waived from my roster as well and if it did can we have this mistake corrected?

DFA is the catch-all for players when there's no where else for them to go..
it’s where they’re sent when you’ve traded for a player or a rehab assignment has run out. It doesn’t mean he’s waived, it just means you need to assign him to the 25 man roster. If you wait too long he will end up getting waived.

Hey everyone
Warning: long and kind of depressing post ahead.
I wanted to apologize for my sudden and unannounced absence from the PRMLB the last month or so. In late October last year, my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had a successful surgery to remove the lung and was about to start chemotherapy, but in early December the doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to her kidneys and skin.
She moved home and me and my family tried to take care of her in mid-December, and then 2 days after Christmas we checked her into the hospital to try and control the pain. After 3 weeks in close care, she was moved to hospice on January 17th, but apparently the cancer had recently spread to her liver, and that was, basically, that. She passed away early the next morning.
Right afterward, I moved to California to start my internship, and have been working and training for the past 10 days or so. The days have been very long, but I’m trying to keep busy.
So now I’m trying to pick up where I left off with my life last December, including jumping back into PRMLB. I know my Angels have kind of fallen into a hole, but, you know, everyone loves worst-to-first stories, right?
I want to thank the commish for not booting me out of the league and also I want to thank everyone that’s emailed me with trade proposals and has been patient with me. I’m sorry the AL West inadvertently became a 3-team race.
Thank you all again. I’m off to download the new league files and to insert Mike Trout into my outfield.

Interesting question
I know we aren’t there yet, but is there a way to set a rotation up conditionally? For example, in improbable situation that I find a way to catch up in the AL Central, I’d like the power to start a guy on short rest, however if it’s the 6th day of a sim week and I lost every game up until that one, I wouldn’t want to start him. I’m doubtful that there’s a way to set things up like that… but is there?

does anyone know how long it takes to get a players defensive rating up for a positon?
for instance, Sam Fuld is a gold glover in both LF and CF (position ratings of 138 and 109 respectively) but a butcher in RF (11). If I play him in RF more will that go up quickly as his range is 101, errors 94, and arm 79.
I am playing Desmond Jennings in LF full time so I want to platoon Fuld in RF but I don’t want him to be terrible fielding out there.

With those ratings, he should improve quite rapidly. But he will only gain experience if you play him there, so you risk the bad defense in the meantime.

I've been playing Orlando Hudson at SS.
His rating went from 0 to 9 in about 6 games. And he only made one error. The secret is, those other ratings are even more important for a player’s performance than the positional ones.

I don’t want to risk injuring them on a wasted year. How is it possible for every starter to pitch worse than last year? Well excepte AJ Burnett, that perfect game was nice, the injury was not.

My understanding
Is that you make a trade with another team, both player go on waivers, if anyone claims them then the trade is cancelled and you keep your players, but if no one claims either player then the trade goes through.

I’m sorry about the lack of responsiveness. I’ve been trying to keep a low profile. It does appear that I will be staying here. I can’t justify a relocation for a greater than fifty percent pay cut and a lot of travel—dream job or not. My current position isn’t entirely stable, but neither is anything in baseball.
Anyway…
zmiko has the process more or less correct. You will still post the trade. You will then put the players on revocable waivers before that sim. If the players are claimed, you revoke the claim, or let it go through if you want. In both cases, no trade occurs.

I haven’t had many bad seasons though for my healthy guys. Andrus and Bourn are really the only underachievers.

Question about Playoff Roster Eligibility
None of my September callups are marked with the & symbol, even the ones who were on the 40-man roster before I called them up. As I understand the rules, any player who was in my organization before September should be eligible for the playoff roster… Or do I have that wrong?
Of course, this is only an issue if I actually make the playoffs.

they have to be on the 25man before Sept 1 as well
but theoretically, they can replace an injured player. I’m a bit nervous about this, as I’ve simmed five years with the Rockies and made the playoffs each year, and each year I get a major player injured. despite moving players to the 60 or getting them healthy again, I can’t get them or their replacement on the team. I’m very confused

Yep.
The only mitigating factor was that my current position isn’t exactly stable. $50,000 is better than $0. Nothing is stable. The Rockies lose 90 games again. DOD gets fired. A new guy comes in and replaces all of the current people with new people. I’m in the same place with less savings due to a lower salary and a relocation.
Also, Colorado is awesome. There are very few places as good as this to live. The only drawback is its relative isolation.

I offered all but one of these guys Major League deals worth between $4-6 million and they take minor league deals with the Rockies?

Like the sim saw the Rockies offers first and immediately accepted. I had minor league offers out to all of them too. If it’s any consolation I’ve played a ton of these games and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these suddenly good FA players ever work out. They’ll probably be back to half-stars before next year even starts

I cleared a ton of salary this year. I saw it as a market inefficiency in the game – akin to an international FA signing. When a player like Soler is rumored to get $20-30 million or more in real life, I figured if I could land four guys with upside for that money it was a reasonable risk.
It is one of the few ways I thought I could bring in some more talent (outside of the draft). The deals I offered were 5-year major league contracts for a total of $4-6 million each.
Given some of the comments I am sure some would think that is foolish, but I have had success with these sorts of FA before in another Sim – though I didn’t go more than a season and a half.
But that is why I think it’s weird they signed minor league deals when that much money was left on the table.
No, I get the reasoning. I just would have trouble justifying that type of 40-man roster inflexibility for players that are so far away.

Yeah ... I considered that.
My thought process, though, was if I offered only minor league deals I would lose out to other teams. I have a few contracts coming off the books after this season as well, so figured I could make the room.
So now you can see why I am so surprised that they took the minor league deals.

That 1/3 of an inning was really bad for Lyon..
4 Hits, 5 Runs, 1 BB, 1 K. I was really worried how Halladay would pitch after being out for two months and no chance for a rehab assignment. But it’s the Doc, 5 runs in 7 innings isn’t too bad.

Question about Waivers ...
I thought there was a “Waive player and designate for assignment” option but I don’t see it listed for players I claimed off waivers.
These guys have major league contracts, but how do I send them down? Do I just place them on waivers? It seems like they would just be released if I did that.
Do you have a full 40 man? Why try to send them down with expanded MLB rosters and no more minor league games?

My 40-man is full. I could clear room but just wondered about waiving and designating for assignment since I had this question before. I realize for this to work they would need to clear waivers again but like I said, I don’t see the option.

The Braves just keep winning and is anyone even running the Nats? Their entire team is either on the Hot list or injured, waiting to be assigned.

Turns out my strategy of giving absolutely no day to day help and Trading every player worked out better than I could’ve expected. The only strategy that would’ve been better would be the age old ootp strategy of relying on jose lopez and ian stewart to perform as all stars.

There's a routine that you need to get into to do this.
That’s easy for work-a-day old guys like us. It’s not as easy for those with different kinds of lives. I’m surprised that, for the most part, we’ve only lost three managers. A few guys are less active, but only three have dropped of the map. That’s good retention for a league of mostly newbies.

at this point, I spend about 20m per sim tops
making sure injuries are accounted for and my lineups are fine. I do have trouble sometimes finding time on the two day sims, but hey, we all screw around on the computer at some point

Yeah, sorry about this
When I first purchased the game last Fall, I was extremely excited about it; but for whatever reason, I ended up hating it. Not even the PR League itself, the game in general – which I played a few times before we really even got going. I was pretty shocked by this because I enjoy the real thing enough to track something as trivial as whether a player on a team I barely even care about ends up with an OPS north or south of .800 daily. When it’s in these sim games though, I get bored very quickly (I wish I had a better explaination, but I just can’t put my finger on it). The same thing happened to me with fantasy baseball, it became a chore to keep track of almost instantly.
After a busy few weeks following the holidays where I was away from the league completely (even after you guys first resumed), any wanning interest I might have had was gone. I guess I should take this moment to apologize to everyone else here who gave this game the time it deserved as it’s obvious I did not. I’m also sorry if I ruined any playoff races.

Although baseball is full of teams suffering setbacks, it’s also full teams overcoming them. All I ask is for the Rockies to be defined by the latter category.

Oh I understand the appeal
And things like this are why when I first bought it I really, really thought I would like it. As much as real life baseball captivates my attention though, this did nothing. I can’t really explain it; I was as shocked as anybody that I didn’t like it.
If I had to guess why, I’d say it has to do with my obsession with the real MLB timeline and anything happening outside of that seeming extremely inauthentic. I realize I’m in the minority here and I don’t expect others to see it this way (nor do I want them too), but I don’t think there’s anything in this game that’s going to lure me in.

so i believe there’s an assumption made that those 3 runners would make it a 2 run game, thus the save rule goes into effect. I don’t know how this is outlined in the official baseball rule book but that’s basically the gist of it.

We will be slowing down a bit to allow for more precise managing during the pennant races.
Here is the schedule:
2/21: 9/15–9/19
2/23: 9/20–9/22
2/26: 9/23–9/25
2/28: 9/26–9/28
For the playoffs, we will sim each round in its entirety. Thus:
3/1: Division Series
3/4: League Championship Series
3/6: World Series
After that, we proceed to the 13-sim offseason schedule as posted here:

the AL WC and Central are pretty interesting races
In the central the Indians and Twins play each other this upcoming sim. Huge series. Indians then play Det while Min plays KC.
In the WC, Tampa passed Boston and will finish at home against Toronto and NYY while Boston finishes on the road against NYY and Balt. Sucks for Boston if they miss the playoffs. They are tied with the Rockies for best Pythag record.
Looks like in the NL there is really only the central race and both teams should still make the playoffs.

I'm trying to figure out how we should do voting for manager of the season.
Should I take nominees?
Should I just do a poll with everyone’s name, then narrow it down to a runoff of the top few?
I think the winner will receive my two ticket vouchers. That will give the person some flexibility. The vouchers should be for two upper deck infield reserve tickets at a choice of four games. I don;t know which games because I don;t have the vouchers yet. If an out-of-towner wins, they can do what they want with them.
Let me know your thoughts on this.

Wolf has not been manager of the Pirates since the 1st week of July and the team was in shambles when I took over. All we have done since then is unload a number of unwieldy contracts, strengthen our farm system (up to #2-4 from #16) and gone 37-33 under my guidance.

Who made any impact more than a spot start or two were September callups: Lonnie Chisenhall @ 3B and Jason Kipnis @ 2B. They hit for 89 and 91 OPS+ and .290 and .304 wOBA… sounded pretty pathetic until I thought about the fact that I’m getting that production from a 22 year old and a 24 year old.

1) At that rate, you’re looking at almost three weeks of playoffs. This sounds good, but not for the other 22 guys. This is really the biggest reason.
2) There isn’t a very good line to draw. What exactly is the right length? Two games at a time would allow for maximum tweaking, but is too slow. Three games at a time could still have somebody get caught off guard by a change in the series.
3) The games aren’t necessarily on the same schedule although I think I did set this up to work that way.
4) The online leagues that I used to do did it this way. That was before some of the current features, but I think it was a good idea.

but could we increase the sim frequency to shorten down the number of games we sim?
Like I said I imagine that would take more of your time so i totally understand if you didn’t want to do it.

For playoff revenue
Is there a way to raise ticket prices for the playoff rounds? I want to maximize playoff revenue as much as possible but only see the Ticket Price under Front Office tab but it doesn’t give much more information other than that. I’m assuming that’s the average price so should I increase that amount to raise the ticket price?

In the sims I do on my own for fun, I generally raise prices $10 for each round and still sell out. Since StL probably has a high loyalty and a reasonably large market, I don’t see this backfiring on you.

He did most of it by himself
I only gave ideas but he had a lot of it planned out and ready to go before I got there (including all of the injuries to his pitchers)

I appreciate the thought,
but most of my team’s good fortune resulted from having Mauer and Morneau healthy all year as opposed to any actual moves I made.
I do plan to be much more active in the offseason, though. I felt bad for missing the trade deadline due to real-life business.

In seriousness though, I thought way too hard about which AL Central manager to vote for.
I am flattered that someone voted for me, too. We’ll see if I deserve it next season, when my cunning plan is put into place. If all works out, I’ll only lose the division to the Rockies by 10 games.

FYI, my playoff price increase backfired
I increased ticket prices $10 to $35 for the first two games of the series and i averaged right around 36K fans for the two games. Avg attendance during the season was 43K so there was some backlash over the increase cost of playoff tix. The weather was crappy so maybe that played a part but still a little annoying.

I haven’t gotten a chance to check the results yet. I had never attempted to raise ticket prices for a playoff game before and I didn’t have any other games close enough to the playoffs to test so I just winged it.

Well it makes sense to increase prices for the playoffs
This may be one part of OOTP that misses the mark. Increasing the avg price by $10 to me seems reasonable if not a bargain so it’s just surprising to me the results that came of that decision.

I ran a separate sim and ran into comparable issues
my fan interest was 92, so I hiked the prices a couple bucks, had a great year, fan interest remained high, but I was totally broke the following offseason. my attendance dropped 70% despite constant fan interest. I didn’t think to check attendance numbers with strong fan interest and team performance
