Arizona Fall League update: Corey Dickerson remains hot; Kent Matthes leads Salt River in HRs

The Salt River Rafters, who feature prospects from the Colorado Rockies and four other big league organizations, are holding on to a slight lead in the Arizona Fall League's East division with a 15-13 record. Several Rockies farmhands have contributed to the Rafters' winning campaign, most notably outfield prospect Corey Dickerson.

Entering play on Wednesday, Dickerson is hitting .345, which is second on the team behind Toronto Blue Jays outfield prospect Kevin Pillar's .407 average. Dickerson could stand to walk more, drawing just one base on balls in 58 at-bats. However, the 23-year-old resident of Mississippi continues to prove those who doubt his swing can carry on to the next level wrong. Although he'll probably start the year at Double-A, Dickerson has a shot to move up a level early if he can repeat his early-season performances from past years.

Fellow Rockies outfield prospect Kent Matthes has seen quite a bit more playing time than Dickerson, accumulating 81 at-bats across 21 games. Matthes' batting average has dropped to just .235, but he leads the club with four home runs and has walked 11 times, which has helped boost his on-base percentage to .333. Matthes will face a make-or-break year, likely at Triple-A Colorado Springs, in 2013.

On the pitching side of things, the four Rockies farmhands throwing for the Rafters haven't been particularly impressive. Reliever Coty Woods has been the best of the bunch, posting a 3.48 ERA with eight strikeouts and three walks in 10.1 innings pitched.

Here are some numbers for the rest of the Rockies farmhands who have appeared for the Rafters:

Lars Davis, C: 39 AB, .282/.341/.436, HR, 3 2B, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 11 K

Jose Gonzalez, C: 32 AB, .156/.289/.188, 2B, 3 RBI, 5 BB, 8 K

Tyler Chatwood, SP: 15.2 IP, 1-1, 4.60 ERA, 15 H, 15 K, 10 BB

Isaiah Froneberger, RP: 12.0 IP, 1-1, 8.25 ERA, 16 H, 10 K, 5 BB

Cory Riordan, RP: 11.1 IP, 2-1, 7.15 ERA, 17 H, 9 K, 3 BB
