OT for Nerds
You know you’ve been playing too much Elder Scrolls 3 (since Skyrim would probably cause my old compy to melt down) and reading too much Purple Row when you have a dream about a prospect with the name Nerevar. Apparently, he was a prospect from “the East Indies” switching from cricket to baseball or something.
An odd dream for someone who doesn’t usually remember dreams.

I'm pretty convinced
that the 80s did more harm to humanity than good. Granted, I was born during the decade, so that’s a positive. But still, a net negative.
You go wash your mouth out.
The 80’s were rad.

Like anything...
It’s completely worthless if you don’t stick to it.
Cooler than a polar bear's toenails...
Metrosexual: It's like being gay, but not being into guys.
yeah
Thats my biggest concern. I’m going to have to force myself into making it a habit to work out in the morning.
The nice thing is
As long as you have a set of free weights and the pull up bar, you can do it right in your living room. Easier than having to convince yourself to go to the gym or run outside.
by The Toddfather's Goatee on Feb 10, 2012 9:58 AM MST up reply actions
I got some resistance bands
but I’m still trying to figure out a way to put a pull-up bar here. I can’t damage the walls, and I’m not sure if my door ways will support me.
Are you going from working out 0 times a week to P90X?
If that’s the case, I predict failure. Most people that I know personally that have done p90x have eased themselves into it by starting another work-out program to get them in good enough shape to do P90X. You might want to start with a kettle bell or a 4 days a week, 20-30 minutes a workout program before jumping in the deep end.
Avalanche 2011-12 season, Mission 45 Wins.
Get well soon Juan.
I'm considering that
as I am kind of going from 0 to 90. But, I do have a reasonably physical job (full kegs do weigh 160 pounds), So it’s not like I haven’t lifted anything heavier than a tv remote.
It's not so much about the lifting as it is about the endurance.
The thing with P90X is that it’s not that you are just doing weight training, but you are essentially doing cardio and weight at the same time. If you can’t jog for 20-30 minutes, then getting started is going to be tough.
I am in no way saying that you shouldn’t start P90X. I’m about 15lbs into the 50 that I want to lose before I start it myself. I’m just saying that you want to make sure you have the endurance to do the workouts before you start since for me at least is the biggest hurdle to continue a workout.
Avalanche 2011-12 season, Mission 45 Wins.
Get well soon Juan.
I think this is sound advice
My work out would make most tired just reading it, but I had to build up to that over the course of more than a year. Aside from the results, the one thing I’m most proud of is maintaining the discipline and forming the habit to get up at 5am to go to the gym.
You can do it!
Cooler than a polar bear's toenails...
Metrosexual: It's like being gay, but not being into guys.
I keep considerint it myself
But then I start working out a few weeks to prime and my shoulder gets wrecked. Plus, an hour is tough to pull on the road

First exposure is very important to me though – I don’t like to read the back of the book, or see anything too revealing about a movie before I experience it. OH MY GOD
HOW IS IT?! I just got my family hooked on Cities and Knights, which is the best thing ever.

It is awesome.
I’ve only played one game, but it is very balanced. Its the thing I have wanted that the regular catan game didn’t, more things to do.
There were a few occasions where I would collect 6-10 resources on one roll, and I still ended up losing.
Avalanche 2011-12 season, Mission 45 Wins.

I've found
That when there’s more to do (esp. in Cities and Knights) I get distracted by all the shiny fun things and forget about collecting victory points.

The best thing?
No Victory points in Trails to Rails.
You have cargo that you must deliver to everyone else’s cities. Person that delivers all their cargo wins.

Ahh very nice

Setlements are free too
But there are specific intersections where settlements can be built (roughly based on where modern cities are located). You get two settler pawns that start in an existing settlement, and then you move them accross the board to discover new places to build cities.
Also many of the tiles have fixed dice values, however you start of with 12 in the east that have random values. As you begin to settle the west, the tiles that have random dice values in the east, lose their number tile, and it gets put somewhere in the west.
It sounds strange at first, but it works really well. The game is super balanced for 3 players, and I can’t wait to try it with 4.

It's a strategy game based on the Cold War.
I thought the same thing before I clicked the link.

I clicked on the link first
because I had a faint recollection that Russ was unlikely to be spending his evening trying to save Belle from Raymond or whatever their names are…

So am I
It seems interesting to me that the game seems to take in all the real historical events of the Cold War up to 89, since I’m guessing the point of the game is to try to influence history with your moves. Makes me stop and think about how a game like that would/should work.

Catan?
Trails to Rails has a great balance for that. You can gain gold in the game by doing various things. One way to get gold is if you aren’t on a number that gets rolled that turn, you get a gold piece. On your turn, you can trade gold for resources 2-1 for up to two resources.

You can get it for $42 on Amazon.
But they sell it in Barnes and Noble. My wife had a 25% off cupon, and surprised me with it.
