Monday Pebble Report: Nolan Arenado Goes Yard in the Clutch, Modesto and Asheville Participate in Slugfests

AAA Colorado Springs - Postponed (5-5, 2nd, 1.5 GB)

The Sky Sox were rained out today, but are scheduled to go at home tomorrow against the Las Vegas 51's. Christian Friedrich gets the start for The Springs, and will hope to build upon two strong efforts early in the season.

AA Tulsa - W 2-1 (7-3, 1st)

It was a great day for the future in Tulsa, as two high-end Rockies prospects played huge parts in the Drillers' close victory. Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, and Nolan Arenado went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead home run with two outs in the eighth inning. Arenado picked a great time for his first long ball of 2012. Nick Schmidt tossed six innings of one run ball, allowing just five hits (and no walks) while striking out three. The bullpen held serve, ending the game with three scoreless frames. Josh Sullivan picked up the save.

Click past the jump for the two A-ball recaps.

High-A Modesto - L 10-9 (2-8, 5th, 6.5 GB)

Despite having seven different players contribute two hits apiece and posting a 6-spot in the fifth inning, the Nuts came out on the wrong side once again. Corey Dickerson was one of the players with two hits, and he pitched in two RBI as well. He's now hitting .439 on the season. Juan Gonzalez actually pitched pretty well, allowing just two earned runs in six innings while punching out five. However, the bullpen absolutely melted down, giving up seven runs in just two innings of work. Kurt Yacko now sports an ERA of 81.00 after blowing the save and taking the loss.

Low-A Asheville - W 9-6 (7-4, t-2nd, 0.5 GB)

Alex Gillingham, who I have admittedly never heard of before now, earned the win by going five innings and allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Harold Riggins went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI to pace the offense, and is now hitting .412. Brian Humphries and Jared Simon each contributed two hits. Trevor Story and Rosell Herrera combined to go 0-for-8. That's how baseball, particularly the minor leagues, works sometimes.
