Rockies 4, Brewers 3: Chacin Looks Better, Cuddyer Propels Colorado to Victory

MILWAUKEE,WI - APRIL 20: Jhoulys Chacin #45 of the Colorado Rockies pitches in the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on April 20, 2012 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Jeffrey Phelps/Getty Images)

For the first time since 1-0, Colorado is back over .500 thanks to a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee. Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, and Ramon Hernandez all had multi-hit nights, while Todd Helton smacked a solo homer (2). The big blow though was a pinch hit single by Michael Cuddyer, who had been sitting out with a bruised toe, in the 9th inning against John Axford (0-1) to break a 3-3 tie. Colorado had 11 hits on the night in all.

It's looking more and more like Jhoulys Chacin's dreadful Home Opener performance was a fluke. Chacin pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 3 runs on only 4 hits and walking 1, striking out 6. And to be fair, Carlos Gonzalez took a crazy risk on a liner that made Norichika Aoki's first ever HR of the inside the park variety. Of course, a few soft singles in the 6th made it a no decision, but it was a great performance nonetheless. Oh, and he added a RBI single at the plate for good measure.

Matt Belisle got the win (1-0) while Rafael Betancourt survived a one out double (which Gonzalez might have been able to get to) to record the save (4). In the game, Colorado's pitching allowed only 5 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1. That is a beautiful ratio right there, and if we get a few more games like it I foresee success for this squad.

Two more things: the Rockies are perfect on my game wraps and they are perfect once the magic 4 run barrier is reached.
