Wednesday Pebble Report: Nuts Hit Doubles, Sky Sox Hit Singles, Runs Score on Double Plays

Colorado Springs 3, Salt Lake 7

Drew Pomeranz (2-2 at AAA) picked up the loss in a start where he demonstrated excellent control, but was subject to many hits, lowering his longevity once again. The lefty went five innings and struck out seven while walking nobody, but nine hits and three earned runs were enough to bury the Sky Sox. Mike Ekstrom and Kennil Gomez were also weak in relief, allowing two runs each on a walk and multiple hits. Rex Brothers, however, was a bright spot, striking out two in his inning of work and allowing no baserunners.

The Sky Sox offense collected just five hits on the day, including four from Tommy Field and Wilkin Castillo with two each. Brandon Roberts produced the final hit, all of which were singles. Field also reached a third time on a walk. The Sky Sox were lucky to score three runs, all three of which scored when Hernan Iribarren put the ball in play (once on a groundout, once on an error and once while grounding into a double play). Salt Lake's defense committed four errors total in this game, but their pitching and offense made up for this.

Tulsa had the day off.

Modesto 2, Rancho Cucamonga 5

The Nuts scattered five hits, including Jared Clark's 11th home run of the year and doubles from Corey Dickerson, Jayson Langfels and Cristhian Adames, who has been on fire lately (his batting has jumped around 80 points in the last week and a half) and kept a 9 game hitting streak alive for the infielder. The other Modesto run was scored by Langfels when Chandler Laurent grounded into a double play.

Starter Leuris Gomez was not particularly bad, allowing just four hits and a walk over five and a third, and just one earned run to score, two overall. Chad Rose (3-3, all in relief) picked up the loss after allowing three runs in his inning and a third. Though he struck out three of those four outs, he sprinkled in a walk, a hit batter and a wild pitch that allowed a runner to score, in addition to two poorly timed singles.

Asheville's game was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the third with the Tourists down 7-3 to Charleston.
