Rockies 12, Tigers 4 -- Colorado Wins Extra Innings Game By 8 Runs

DETROIT, MI - JUNE 15: Wilin Rosario #20 of the Colorado Rockies celebrate with teammates in the dugout after scoring a run in the 10th inning while playing the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on June 15, 2012 in Detroit, Michigan. Of course they did. Baseball is weird. Entering the game on an eight game losing streak, the Rockies managed to get the least suspenseful extra inning win that I can remember thanks to an 8 run 10th inning to snap the losing skid. It was a memorable way to end a long losing streak, and it's one of those rare pockets of fun in what has otherwise been a dreary 2012 campaign for Colorado.

The 10th began innocuously enough, with a Michael Cuddyer seeing-eye single. Eric Young followed with a sac bunt that turned into a 1st and 3rd no-out situation when Jose Valverde decided to throw an eephus pitch to first base. After an intentional walk to Todd Helton to load the bases and a groundout, the floodgates burst open. Wilin Rosario hit a chopper that made its way over the pulled in infield to plate two, Dexter Fowler hit a sac fly, Marco Scutaro singled in another run, then Carlos Gonzalez hit a 3 run bomb (17) -- followed immediately by a Cuddyer solo shot.

Both Gonzalez and Cuddyer had 3 hit nights, while Rosario, Chris Nelson, and Jordan Pacheco each had 2 hits. Nelson's 2 hits were a RBI triple to score the game's first run and a 2 run homer (3) that put the Rockies up 4-3 in the 4th. Actually, every member of the starting lineup got a hit -- there were 16 total for Colorado in the game.

Jeff Francis fared better in this game (but not much better, to be honest), lasting 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, striking out 2. Once again though it was the bullpen who deserves a gold star, as 4 relievers combined to throw 4.2 innings of 1 hit shutout ball, striking out 5. Matt Belisle ended up getting the win (3-2) with 2 scoreless frames.
