A+ Modesto: W 12-1 (down 1-2 in best-of-five series)
The Nuts avoided being swept in the California League semifinals by scoring early and often. Joey Wong led off with a home run, and led the Modesto offense with four hits on the night. Timothy Smalling homered as part of his two-hit night, while Delta Cleary went 2-for-4 with a triple. Jared Clark also homered for the Nuts, who put up six runs combined in the first and second innings, then another six in the eighth against former highly-regarded Yankees prospect (isn't every Yankees prospect highly-regarded?) Andrew Brackman.

Modesto threw one of their best pitchers, in addition to a major league pitcher, out there in order to get the win, as Jorge De La Rosa went the first three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and allowing a run on three hits while walking one. Christian Bergman then proceeded to work five innings of shutout relief, striking out five and allowing just two hits and a walk.

Modesto is back at it on Tuesday night, as they'll host Bakersfield in Game 4 at 8:05 p.m. MT.

A Asheville: L 6-3 (down 0-1 in best-of-five series)
The Tourists dropped the opening game of the South Atlantic League championship series as Ben Alsup struggled to keep the ball in the park. Alsup allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings, including two home runs, to take the loss -- his second of the playoffs.

Samuel Mende led the Tourists with three hits, while Jordan Ribera had two of his own. Trevor Story and Will Swanner both doubled and scored a run.

Dan Winkler will get the ball on Tuesday night as the Tourists look to even the series. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. MT from McCormick Field.
