Sunday Pebble Report: Tulsa And Grand Junction Stay Alive, Asheville Advances To Championship Series

AA Tulsa: W 4-1 (tied 2-2 in best-of-five series)
The Drillers got a sound outing from Brandon Hynick and the bullpen, allowing them to even up their playoff series against the Springfield Cardinals. Hynick allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Zach Simons and Coty Woods combined for three scoreless frames to shut the door on the Cards.

Chris Pettit and Tim Torres both hit homers for Tulsa, while Torres, Corey Dickerson and Nolan Arenado had two hits apiece. Troy Tulowitzki went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, dropping his Double-A batting average to .200.

The fifth and deciding game will be played this afternoon in Springfield. The gritty, gutty Dan Houston will be on the mound for the Drillers.

A+ Modesto: L 5-4 (down 0-1 in best-of-five series)
The Nuts made a couple of miscues on defense, and that appears to be the difference between getting out of Bakersfield with a win and what actually happened. Rafael Ortega had two more hits -- including a triple -- which raised his playoff batting average to .571. Jayson Langfels homered and Jared Clark doubled, as well

Kennil Gomez allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out four. Nick Schnaitmann struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning

Game 2 will take place this afternoon in Bakersfield.

More recaps after the jump.

A Asheville: W 4-3 (won best-of-three series, 2-1)
The Tourists advanced to the South Atlantic League championship round after dispatching of Rome on Saturday behind a big two-run homer from Jordan Ribera in the seventh inning, which broke a 2-2 tie. Taylor Featherston had a couple of hits to help the cause, while Samuel Mende singled and walked twice.

Chris Jensen was very good, allowing two runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

The Tourists' best-of-five championship series against Greensboro will start on Monday night in Asheville.

RK Grand Junction: W 8-7 (tied 1-1 in best-of-three series)
The GJ Rockies stayed alive in their best-of-three series against Ogden, thanks to a go-ahead RBI single from Wilfredo Rodriguez in the top of the 11th inning. Rodriguez, along with Julian Yan, led the team with three hits on the night. David Dahl and Matt Wessinger had two apiece, while Ben Waldrip hit a key three-run homer as part of a five-run eighth inning for the Rockies.

Jayson Aquino had what was probably the worst outing of his stateside career thus far, as he allowed five runs on four hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. However, he did strike out eight.

The series finale will go down late this afternoon in Ogden.
