Game Wrap: Avalanche 4, Blue Jackets 0

Doug Pensinger

This one was over in the first minute. P.A. Parenteau scored his second goal of the season 51 seconds in, which was all Semyon Varlamov needed.

Varly stopped 33 shots to put up his ninth career shutout and improve the Avalanche to 2-1-0. The Avs shut down six Columbus power plays and have now successfully killed 16 straight penalties.

Matt Duchene scored on insurance goal late in the first period off a rebound and another in garbage time in the third for his first two of the season. John Mitchell also added his second of the year.

Also, Patrick Bordeleau got in his first fight of the year and dominated the Blue Jackets player, so that was cool.

Colorado will next head out on a four game road trip starting Saturday in San Jose.

Three stars: Semyon Varlamov (33 saves), Matt Duchene (2G, 1A), Erik Johnson (+2, 5 blocked shots).
