Arizona Fall League update: Kyle Parker and Tim Wheeler produce two hits in Salt River's shutout loss

Tim Wheeler - Charlie Drysdale

Rafters offense is shutout as Tim Wheeler and Kyle Parker's two hits lead the club. Tyler Matzek pitches a rough inning before stopping the bleeding with a double play.

Rockies prospects went a combined 2-for-11as the Glendale Desert Dogs shutout the Salt River Rafters 6-0 on Thursday. Kyle Parker and Tim Wheeler produced half of the Rafters four hits as White Sox Triple-A pitcher Stephen McCray shut down the Rafters throwing four no-hit innings on the night.

Playing right field and batting fifth, Tim Wheeler was the first Rafter to reach base on a groundball single to the right side of the diamond. It was Wheeler's only offensive production as he struck out in his remaining three at-bats. Wheeler's average fell to .300 in the fall season.

Kyle Parker started at first base and batted cleanup on the night. Although Parker was able to earn just a single, he was seeing the ball well and lined out in his other three at-bats. The Clemson product is batting .200 on the AFL season.

Cristhian Adames was hitless in three tries on Thursday, he's batting just .200 in Arizona. Starting at shortstop, the young dominican was part of a Rockies double play in the third inning that included Tyler Matzek and Kyle Parker.

Left handed pitcher Tyler Matzek came on in relief and pitched the third inning. The inning began with an Adames error allowing Yorman Rodriguez to reach base. After walking Travis Mattair, Matzek then gave up back-to-back doubles to Corey Seager and Marcus Semien allowing two runs to score.

After a walk loaded the bases, Matzek was able to limit the damage, inducing a comebacker double play. The left-hander finished out the inning with a 10-pitch strikeout of Dodgers catching prospect Chris O'Brien. His ERA sits at 6.00 after three innings of fall work.

Salt River plays again Friday night at 6:35 Arizona time against the Peoria Javelinas. Peoria is 3-5 on the season and made up of players from Houston, Seattle, San Diego, Philadelphia and Kansas City.
