Despite a good effort on the mound from Jorge De La Rosa, the Rockies come up short against Cincinnati.

Jorge De La Rosa once again showed signs of being back on track, allowing just one run on two hits in five innings, but the Rockies wound up on the losing end of a 4-3 ballgame against the Cincinnati Reds.

De La Rosa retired the first six Reds he faced before walking Zack Cozart to lead off the top of the third and surrendered an RBI double to opposing pitcher Bronson Arroyo for his only blemish on the night.

The Rockies only offensive production in the first eight innings came courtesy of Dexter Fowler, who led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to center field.

In the top of the sixth, De La Rosa made way for the spring debut of Christian Friedrich, who had been battling back issues. Friedrich was less than sharp in his first inning, allowing a leadoff double to Cesar Izturis, who scored on Donald Lutz's single, and a solo home run to Jay Bruce, giving the Reds a 3-1 advantage.

Cincinnati added a run in the eighth when speedster Billy Hamilton stretched a double into a triple against Rafael Betancourt and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Rockies fought back in the bottom of the ninth, with Ben Paulsen leading off the inning with a home run to left-center against Reds reliever Drew Hayes. They then cut the lead to 4-3 when Tyler Colvin scored on a throwing error by Reds third baseman Emmanuel Burriss, but pinch hitter Corey Dickerson grounded out to end the game in a 4-3 Rockies loss.

The Rockies will travel to Surprise, Ariz. tomorrow to take on the Kansas City Royals at 2:05 Mountain Time tomorrow. Juan Nicasio will start on the mound.
