Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE
Winning is better than losing. Beating the Giants is better than regular winning. Beating Matt Cain is better than that.
A nailbiter - okay, who am I kidding - a spring training game that was close became less close when the Rockies scored 5 runs in the 8th inning off Giants lefty Dan Runzler.
Drew Pomeranz got the ball in this one, lasting 5 innings and allowing 10 hits and 2 walks but only 3 runs while striking out 4 to pick up the victory (2-2). Pitching for a spot in the rotation or the bullpen, Chris Volstad allowed a run in 2 innings of work after Colorado had extended their lead to 7. Sandwiched around that were clean innings by Rex Brothers and Edgmer Escalona.
Wilin Rosario hit a 2 run homer off of losing pitcher Matt Cain, while 3 separate Rockies (Josh Rutledge, Dexter Fowler, and Jonathan Herrera) hit triples - Colorado had 13 hits in the game, matching San Francisco's total. With the win Colorado improves to 12-10 in Cactus League play.
And that's all I have to say about that.
