I wrote in the Game Thread that this would be a chance for Juan Nicasio to build on his strong last outing, and while he wasn't quite as sharp, he did a good job of pitching out of trouble and gave up only 2 runs in five innings. He also was useful with the bat, going 2 for 2 with an RBI. However the Rockies could not get enough momentum in the early innings and had to settle for one run in each inning instead of a crooked number and then Tulo grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Matt Belisle was called in to relieve Juan Nicasio in the sixth and nothing seemed to go right for him. He gave up back-to-back singles and then a Tulo error allowed the first run to score. Then, a sacrifice bunt ended up loading the bases when the throw to third pulled Nolan Arenado off the bag. After yet another single on a bloop to the outfield, Tulo seemed poised to get an out if not a double play before the ball ended up bouncing of his glove in what was eventually ruled another hit. A sacrifice fly and a strikeout finished the inning, but the damage was done with five runs for the Brew Crew that the Rockies could not match.
Rockie of the game (other than Nicasio): Charlie Blackmon who went 1 for 3 with a run, a rbi, and two walks. Neither his run nor his RBI came on his one hit as he led off the game with a walk that turned into a run and he smartly hit a ground ball out RBI to help the team. All together, the Rockies had 8 walks, one of them for an rbi.
