The Rockies have now won nine consecutive games against teams not named the San Francisco Giants as the Colorado bats came alive this afternoon in the first game of a double header against the Mets.
Things did not start off well for Colorado as the Mets got on the board first with a two run homer by third baseman David Wright off Rockies starter Juan Nicasio. The Rockies quickly fought back however with a run in the second via a Wilin Rosario RBI single and a monster solo shot into the second deck by Carlos Gonzalez in the third.
The Mets would retake the lead in the 4th on a Ruben Tejada RBI single and pad it in the 5th on David Wright's second homer of the day. (This concludes the Met highlights for this game)
Dillon Gee completely unraveled in the 5th. After surrendering a one out hit to Eric Young Jr (one of three hits on the day for EY2), he walked Carlos Gonzalez, nearly gave this Rockies fan a heart attack by nailing Troy Tulowitzki square on the left elbow (Tulo stayed in the game and looked to be Okay after the initial sting wore off), and then walked in a run by handing Michael Cuddyer a free pass with the bases loaded. Todd Helton followed that up by lining a bases loaded single up the middle to give the Rockies a lead they would never relinquish.
Edgmer Escalona, Wilton Lopez, and Rafael Betancourt combined for four shutout innings to close out the game and the Rockies tacked on three more late runs as they rolled to an 8-4 victory and a 9-4 overall record.
