First Pebble Report of the Season: Eddie Butler Twirls A Gem and Nolan Arenado Starts the Season With a Bang

Colorado's minor league squads started off their season with a 1-3 record

AAA Colorado Springs - L 5-4 (0-1)

The Sky Sox lose their home opener after falling short in the ninth inning when Tyler Colvin was thrown out at home plate. Christian Friedrich was pulled in the fourth inning after allowing only two earned runs on one hit, two walks and five strikeouts. Nolan Arenado (#2 PuRP) homered in the game and had two RBI and two runs scored. Every position player except for D.J. LeMahieu earned a hit in the game.

AA Tulsa - L 1-7 (0-1)

Tulsa's offense struggled in its opening game garnering only three hits. Kyle Parker (#4 PuRP) went 1-for-4 and scored the Drillers lone run in front of a Kent Matthes (HM PuRP) double. Catcher Jose Gonzalez was the only other Driller to reach via a base hit. Starter Dan Houston pitched effectively, going five innings and allowing only two earned runs and inducing five strikeouts. Newly converted relievers Parker Frazier (#28 PuRP) and Joe Gardner (#19 PuRP) allowed the most damage allowing five earned runs in two innings between the two. Gardner's ERA stands at 81.00 after one game.

High-A Modesto - L 4-5 in 12 innings (0-1)

Tyler Anderson (#8 PuRP) pitched five perfect innings in his first start of the season, unfortunately he also gave up four runs in the fourth inning. Anderson's final line of seven innings pitched with five strikeouts and three earned runs gave him a 3.86 ERA to start the season. David Kandilas (HM PuRP) slapped four hits, including a double in six at bats. Trevor Story (#3 PuRP) went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts. Scott Oberg was saddled with the loss after allowing the go ahead run to score from a walk and two hits in the twelfth inning.

Low-A Asheville - W 3-0 (1-0)

Eddie Butler (#13 PuRP) pitched a gem earning the Tourists their first win of the season. Butler threw a one hit shutout through 5.1 innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Roberto Padilla, Rayan Gonzalez and Raul Fernandez added an additional 7 strikeouts and one hit allowed in the game to preserve the shutout. Catcher Tom Murphy (#15 PuRP) went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored to highlight the offensive action. Centerfielder David Dahl (#1 PuRP) struggled in his first Low-A game finishing 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, but erased a runner at third base with an outfield assist.
