Sunday Pebble Report: Arenado is still on fire

Starting pitching ruled the day as 3 of 4 Rockies affiliates won on Saturday. Drew Pomeranz struck out 8 over 5.2 scoreless innings and Nolan Arenado keeps on hitting.

The Rockies affiliates went 3-1 on Saturday with Tulsa being the only loser of the group. Asheville moved to 3-0 and Modesto got their first win of the season.

AAA: Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3, Reno Aces 2

The Sky Sox (2-1) scored two runs in the 15th inning and won on a walk-off single by Ben Paulsen. Nolan Arenado continued to shine, going 3-6 with a double, an RBI, and a BB. Arenado is hitting .538 on the season. Tyler Colvin was 2-5 with a triple and a BB as he continues to iron out his swing.

Drew Pomeranz was tremendous on the hill, starting and throwing 5.2 scoreless innings with 4 hits, 1 BB, and 8 K's. Manny Corpas gave up a run in 2.1 innings of work.

AA: San Antonio Missions 7, Tulsa Drillers 1

The Drillers (1-2) were smothered by the Missions Saturday. Chad Bettis took the loss, as he gave up 9 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings of work. Joe Gardner relieved him and had his second shaky outing of the year, giving up 3 runs in 3 innings.

Offensively there wasn't much for the Drillers, mustering only 6 hits. The only extra base hit was a double from pitcher Joe Gardner.

High A: Modesto Nuts 5, Inland Empire 66ers 1

The Nuts (1-2) got their first win of the season, led by a strong starting pitching performance from righty Ben Alsup. Alsup pitched 7 scoreless frames, surrendering 3 hits and no BB's; he struck out 9.

Offensively, Trevor Story got his first hit of the year, finishing the night 1-2. He also walked 3 times. CF Jordan Ribera had 3 RBI's on the night for the Nuts.

Low A: Asheville Tourists 4, West Virginia Power 1

Asheville (3-0) continued their perfect season with more solid starting pitching. This time Benjamin Hughes went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Rayan Gonzalez and Raul Fernandez both pitched scoreless innings behind Hughes.

The Tourists had 7 hits with no player collecting more then 1. Rosell Herrera (No relation to Johnny) and Matt Argyropoulos had the two extra base hits for the Tourists, both of which were doubles.
