Giving up a two run home run to the pitcher. Getting thrown out in a one run game trying to stretch a single into a double. Defensive misplays in the bottom of the seventh. The Rockies couldn't get out of their own way to get a series win and now have to right the ship quickly in order to get ready for the NL West leading Giants.
John Garland did what he has done all season, giving up three runs in five innings. It could have been a lot better without the aforementioned home run given up to Jeff Samardzija, but he kept the Rockies in the game. A pivotal seventh ended poorly for the Rockies as a defensive miscue and a shot right through Helton's legs gave the Cubs insurance runs. The good news is Josh Rutledge went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in the seven spot, I hope he stays there.
The bad news is that EY and Dex cannot continue to go 0 for the game with five strikeouts and remain the top two hitters of this lineup. No runners on in front of Cargo and Tulo means very few runs scored for the Rockies (these two and Helton going 1 for 10 certainly doesn't help either). The Cubs are a team the Rockies need to win games against and by losing this series, they now have to find a way to win more games against the better teams. So, bring on the Giants.
