Carlos Gonzalez will get a lot of credit for this win with his home run and RBI triple, but Jorge De La Rosa is proving to be a steady rock for this team. Given an early lead, De La Rosa pitched well even while getting hit around a little bit. He kept the runs off the scoreboard and kept the Diamondbacks from even having a chance.
With this win, and San Francisco's loss to the Washington Nationals in 10 innings, the Rockies made it a three way tie for first place with a series coming up over the weekend in the city by the bay. After finally winning against the Giants and beating Barry Zito last weekend in Denver, it will be interesting to see if the Rockies can take their new found confidence against the Giants on the road. The Rockies should have Michael Cuddyer back for that series.
Of note in this game, DJLM started at second and batted second. He went 1 for 4 with a run scored and Drew Creaseman later told us that DJLM will be a more permanent fixture in the lineup as Josh Rutledge was sent down to make room for Cuddyer. Rutledge has been showing some improvement of late and hopefully this return to the minor leagues will result in long term success. That being said, if DJLM keeps hitting, the Rockies could have an over-abundance at second, which could be used to trade for pitching at some point.
