Will Swanner homers twice; Trevor Story and Rosell Herrera go yard as well

A trio of Modesto players found their power stroke on Memorial Day, while the same could be said in Asheville.

AAA Colorado Springs: L 8-1 (30-19, 1st)

The Sky Sox were held to three hits by former Rockies minor league Shane Loux, who went the distance for Fresno. Josh Rutledge doubled, Hernan Iribarren tripled and Corey Dickerson drove in Colorado Springs' only run. Tyler Colvin had the only other hit.

Jeff Manship allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out two. Nick Schmidt allowed a run in two innings of relief and Michael Solbach tossed a scoreless ninth to lower his ERA to 1.17.

AA Tulsa: L 6-3 (22-27, 3rd, 3 GB)

Cole White, who was a teammate of Jordan Pacheco's at New Mexico, took the loss by allowing four runs on four hits and a walk in the top of the eighth inning. White was also charged with a blown save, as the Drillers held a 3-2 lead entering the inning. Steven Hensley cleaned up in the ninth, working around a walk to extend his scoreless appearances streak to start his career in the Rockies organization to seven.

Sean Gallagher started the game for Tulsa and allowed a pair of solo home runs, but was otherwise solid. He lasted six innings and gave up two runs on six hits.

Six different Drillers went 1-for-4 at the plate, with Dustin Garneau being the only one of those to accumulate an RBI.

A+ Modesto: W 9-6 (23-27, 4th, 9 GB)

Will Swanner and Tyler Massey each homered twice and Trevor Story went yard as well to pace the Nuts' offense. Swanner's two bombs give him three on the year, while Massey has four after his pair of jacks. Story, along with Swanner, has three homers on the year, but both players are still below the Mendoza line.

Tyler Gagnon allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings but picked up the victory thanks to Modesto's bats.

A Asheville: W 12-4 (27-22, 4th, 3.5 GB)

Francisco Sosa, Matt Argyropoulos and Rosell Herrera each had two hits or more for Asheville, which totaled 13 hits in the game. Sosa, Herrera and Tom Murphy went yard for the Tourists; Sosa and Murphy have nine on the year while Herrera increased his homer total to eight. Herrera is hitting .335 with eight homers and 34 runs driven in, but is affected by home/road splits. Still, 2013 continues to be an impressive bounce-back year for the 20-year-old shortstop.

T.J. Oakes earned the victory by going 5.2 innings and allowing four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and three walks. He struck out two. Alving Mejias and Brook Hart combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Oakes.
