The Rockies will host a dilapidated and broken Dodgers team for a 3 game set starting tonight. This will be the first time the Dodgers have visited Coors Field this year, and it comes at what has been a historically bad month. In the only other time these two teams have faced each other this year, the Rockies outscored the Dodgers 21-11 in the series win at Chavez Ravine.
This series comes on the heels of some bad news for the Dodgers team. Yesterday, Matt Kemp was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring injury- the same injury that lost the centerfielder a lot of playing time last year. Kemp has struggled this year, batting .251/.305/.335.
While all of this spells success for the Rockies team, who really could use the win to boost fan morale (and that of the team too, I'm sure), tonight's game could be very tricky for the Rockies. They are facing Clayton Kershaw, who has been nothing short of exceptional so far this year. The Rockies are countering with Jon Garland, who has struggled of late. He has allowed 5 runs in each of his last two starts, and in his last start didn't make it past 5 innings due to a high pitch count. Also, baseball is a funny game.
