Triple-A Colorado Springs - L 6-8 (18-13)
After enduring a four hour rain delay, the Sky Sox lost to Iowa, the Chicago Cubs affiliate in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Starter Aaron Cook was scratched due to the rain and Cory Riordan started in his stead, allowing four runs, two earned in 2.1 innings pitched. The rest of the Sky Sox relievers gave up an additional four in the loss.
In honor of Math Day, DJ LeMahieu added to his hit streak with a single in the fourth inning and passed Corey Dickerson (#7 PuRP) for the most consecutive games with a hit, he now sits at 17. Dickerson went 3-for-4 with a walk and double to raise his average to .364 on the year.
Double-A Tulsa - W 6-5 (16-16)
The Drillers won their fourth walk off game of the year against the Angels affiliate the Arkansas Travelers on Wednesday. Designated hitter Jaron Shepherd had a thrilling game going 3-for-4 with a walk. Shepherd scored the game winning run on a wild pitch when he came around from second after Kent Matthes (HM PuRP) had struck out in the bottom of the 11th. Second baseman Angelys Nina drove out the park his second home run of the season.
Starter Christian Bergman (#25 PuRP) pitched well and was in line for the win after pitching six solid innings with only a single earned run allowed. Bergman had four strikeouts and five hits given up on the night. His ERA sits at 3.18 on the season. Joe Gardner (#19 PuRP) earned the blown save when he gave up a two-run homer to right fielder Randal Grichuk. Left fielder Kyle Parker (#4 PuRP) went hitless in five at bats, with two strikeouts, but earned a RBI on a groundout in the fifth.
High-A Modesto - W 6-4 (14-19)
The Nuts won against the A's affiliate in Modesto on Wednesday. Starter Ben Alsup pitched seven innings allowing only three hits and a single earned run. He had four strikeouts and one walk allowed, his ERA sits at 3.50. Reliever Kenneth Roberts came in the eighth and pitched to four batters to earn his second save of the year. Kenneth has walked only one batter in 14 appearances and his ERA sits at 0.96 on the season.
Designated hitter Harold Riggins (#20 PuRP) broke open the game in the fifth inning when he launched his fourth home run of the year. It's the third long ball in his past six games. Shortstop Trevor Story (#3 PuRP) is slowly showing signs of life as he gathered in a hit and has now hit safely in six of his last seven games. Catcher Ryan Casteel went 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI, he's now hitting .306 on the year.
