Dodgers 7, Rockies 5: Vintage Helton homer not enough

2000 Todd Helton made a cameo in tonight's game to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, but it didn't prove to be enough as the Rockies fell to the struggling Dodgers team in the bottom of the 10th.

In the 9th inning tonight, it was like someone pulled a bottle of 2000 Vintage Todd Helton out from the wine cellar, dusted it off, and uncorked it. The result was an 11-pitch at-bat which frustrated Brandon League before Helton smashed a monstrous home run to deep right field. These are the moments that I hope we will remember Helton's farewell tour by.

Unfortunately, it was a moment that was shrouded by a pretty unfortunate game, as the Rockies pitching gave the Dodgers their 10th win in the month of May. Once again, Jon Garland was ineffective, taking 5 innings to go through 93 pitches, and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. And while Scahill, Lopez, and Outman each delivered good pitching performances, Rafael Betancourt allowed two runs to score on three singles, and ultimately the Rockies fell in a pretty painful way to a struggling team.

The Rockies offense had a difficult time against Clayton Kershaw, who retired the first 10 batters he faced before allowing a single to Dexter Fowler in the bottom of the fourth. He delivered his 9th quality start of the year, and helped his own cause with a 2 RBI double in the 4th inning.

If this game has you down, just go here and watch that video over and over, and remind yourself that Todd Helton is still a Rockie.
