Rockies Final Score: Colorado 7, Los Angeles 6 - Rockies walk off in extras on Fowler single

Dexter Fowler's two-out single in the 10th inning down the right-field line lifted the Rockies to victory in walk-off fashion, snapping a three game losing streak and evening the series at a game apiece. With two on and nobody out, Yorvit Torrealba (2-4, 2 R) singled through the right side, then pinch hitter Wilin Rosario beat out a slow roller to short to set the stage for Fowler's heroics.

It was the tenth extra innings game of the year (and fourth walk-off win) for Colorado, with the win bringing their record in those games to 4-6. In the year that shall not be named, the Rockies had only seven games in which they went extras (they went 5-2).

On a day where two highly talented starting pitchers faced off, it was offense that won the day. Neither Zack Greinke nor Jhoulys Chacin were at the top of their game in this contest. Greinke in particular had a tough time finding the strike zone, going deep in the count on many Colorado hitters (walking three) and throwing 108 pitches (65 for strikes) in 5.1 innings pitched.

Chacin also struggled, pitching through a lot of traffic in the 1st, allowing three in the 3rd (it would have been one fewer if not for a DJ LeMahieu error), and another two in the 6th. Chacin went six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two.

It started off looking a lot like the Astros series for Colorado - namely, the Rockies were leaving a lot of potential runs on the table. After three straight one-out hits in the second, including a RBI double by Nolan Arenado to give Colorado an early 1-0 lead, Jhoulys Chacin hit into a bases-loaded double play to end the threat. In all, the Rockies would leave four men in scoring position in the game.

Fortunately, Fowler (RBI infield single) and Carlos Gonzalez (an opposite field two run shot that brought his total on the year to 14) were able to provide timely hits in the 5th to bring the Rockies back into the lead. After the Dodgers had scored two in the sixth to pull ahead again, it was Michael Cuddyer who tied it back up in the 7th with a two-run jack to right-center (his 9th).

Colorado ended up with 14 hits in the game, including multi-hit efforts from Arenado, Cuddyer, Fowler, Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, and Torrealba.

Walt Weiss did get a little cute with his bullpen, pulling lefty Josh Outman in the 7th after he had retired the first two hitters to bring in Edgmer Escalona, who promptly allowed a double and a single to increase the deficit to 6-4. Other than that though the bullpen was their usual stellar selves, allowing only the one run on two hits in four innings of relief (striking out five). Matt Belisle pitched a clean 10th inning to earn the win (3-2).

The win moves the Rockies to 29-27 on the year and, for the moment, two games back in the NL West.
