Colorado Springs, W 15-9 (35-28)
The Sky Sox entered the bottom of the sixth with an eight-run deficit to overcome at 9-1 and emerged with an 11-9 lead after the inning ended.
Charlie Culberson kicked off the scoring with a three-run homer (9) and Ben Paulsen closed it out with a grand slam (8). In between, Corey Dickerson doubled in a run and scored on a wild pitch. Josh Rutledge broke up those two runs with his own RBI single.
In the eighth inning, Charlie Blackmon drove in three on a double and Culberson played Blackmon for one last run.
Drew Pomeranz was tagged for four runs on six hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out five. Nick Schmidt relieved Pomeranz and fared even worse: he allowed five runs in 1⅔ innings.
Tulsa, W 4-3 (31-32)
The Drillers' offense came through in the bottom of the eighth when Kiel Roling doubled in a run and back-to-back singles by Jayson Langfels and Delta Cleary scored the tying and go-ahead runs. Langfels drove in the other Tulsa run in the fourth inning.
Christian Bergman allowed three runs over seven innings and struck out two. He induced 13 ground outs to just five fly outs.
Modesto, L 5-3 (31-34)
Trevor Story's fifth homer of the season was a seventh-inning two-run shot that cut San Jose's lead to one, 4-3. But those were the last runs for the Nuts on Tuesday night. Ryan Casteel's double came in the fourth inning.
The Nuts struck out 15 times, including three by Story and four by Harold Riggins. Will Swanner, on the other hand, hit two doubles and now has 11 two-baggers this season.
Tyler Gagnon gave up four runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out six.
Asheville, W 4-3 in 8 innings (34-28)
Savannah put three runs on the board over the first two innings, but the Tourists battled back for three in the sixth and one in the top of the eighth to win in extra innings the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Derek Jones hit his eighth homer of the season in the sixth to put the first Tourist run up. Francisco Sosa and Matt Argyropoulos added RBI singles to tie the game. In the eighth, Sosa reached base on a ground out, stole second, and finally advanced from there to home plate on a wild pitch. Rosell Herrera went 4-for-4 with a double.
Matthew Carasiti went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits and two walks. He didn't strike out any Gnats. Andrew Brown and Rayan Gonzalez pitched the final three innings and allowed three hits.
Asheville, L 1-0 in 11 innings (34-29)
Then these two teams went scoreless for 10½ innings before the game ended in the bottom of the 11th on a walk-off walk by Patrick Johnson. Matt Wessinger made a throwing on the first ball in play, but that baserunner was out on Jeff Reynolds' force out. Reynolds moved to second on a wild pitch and stopped at third on a single to left field. A walk loaded the bases and a second consecutive free pass ended the game.
Starter Matt Flemer threw 7⅔ shutout innings of two-hit ball and struck out six.
DSL Rockies, W 7-4 (5-4)
The DSL Rockies rallied from a 4-3 deficit entering the top of the ninth to take a 7-4 lead and the win . Catcher Wilkyns Jimenez led off the inning with his second double of the game. Back-to-back sacrifice bunts pushed Jimenez across the plate to tie the game. Three RBI singles after that gave the Rockies the lead and a comfortable cushion.
Every starter for the Rockies had a hit, with Jimenez, third baseman Luis Castro and shortstop Emerson Jimenez collecting multiple hits. Righty Carlos Polanco started the game, allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, and struck out four.
