Game 68 preview: Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies

Mike McGinnis

The Rockies' winning record and their position only 2.5 games back in the NL West could be in jeopardy. They are facing a very good pitcher in Kyle Kendrick, and only a day ago had three of their four top players exit the game with injuries. However, the offensively submissive Phillies may not pose too much of a threat.

The Rockies will host the Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field as they face each other for the first time this year. A win today would be welcome relief for the Rockies, who only yesterday had three of their four best batters exit the game due to injuries. It would also reassure a struggling Phillies team, who has only won 5 of their last 6 games and is 7.5 games out of first place in the NL East.

The only real offensive threat on the Phillies team is Domonic Brown. He is leading the NL with 19 home runs, which means that he is hitting a homer nearly every third game.

Juan Nicasio will start for the Rockies, in what is his 14th start this year. In his previous start versus the Padres, Nicasio allowed only 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk, while striking out a season high 7 batters. He is facing a team whose offense has scored 36 fewer runs. While Nicasio has been decent this year, he has been plagued by inefficiency and has never pitched more than six innings.

Kyle Kendrick will start for the Phillies. He is one game removed from his two-run complete game against the cellar dwelling Miami team, his second complete game of the year. He has been very good this year, and could pose a threat to the crippled Rockies offense.
