Rockies 7, Dodgers 2: Four home runs power Rockies to series victory

Garrett Ellwood

The Rockies got seven solid innings from Jorge De La Rosa en route to winning their second straight series from the Dodgers. Dexter Fowler hit two home runs and the Rockies had four on the afternoon.

Dexter Fowler seems to be back to his April form where he hit eight home runs. After going the entire month of May without a HR Dex connected twice - including a lead-off home run in the first- to get his ninth and 10th home runs of the year. Michael Cuddyer also added his 10th HR of the year and Todd Helton stayed hot, going one-for-two with two walks and his fifth HR.

The Rockies only produced six hits on the day, but they created plenty of traffic walking nine times off Dodgers starter Matt Magill. Magill was able to get through six innings, but he surrendered seven runs, six earned and was erratic all afternoon. The Rockies took patient at-bats all game long and delivered the big blows when it mattered.

Jorge De La Rosa finally shook the monkey off his back that was the Los Angeles Dodgers. Previously 0-8 against L.A., De La Rosa found the win column on Sunday with seven strong innings. De La Rosa is now 7-3 with a 3.10 ERA and is making a strong case to be an All-Star. Adam Ottavino relieved De La Rosa and pitched two perfect innings with four punch outs.

Carlos Gonzalez is another player making a legitimate All-Star claim and he impressed defensively on Sunday. CarGo had a forgettable day at the plate, but he robbed a HR in the first on a perfectly timed leap and threw out Skip Schumaker trying to extend a double into a triple in the second inning.

With Fowler and Cuddyer reaching the 10 HR plateau, the Rockies now have four players with double-digit HRs and Wilin Rosario is just one away with nine.

It's off to Cincinnati for the Rockies where Tyler Chatwood will take the ball against Bronson Arroyo in the opener tomorrow at 5:10 MT.
