Nicasio gave up a pair of runs on three hits and a pair of walks in the first inning, including RBI singles from Dustin Pedroia and Daniel Nava, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. Wilin Rosario answered back in the top of the second with his 12th home run of the season off Boston starter Ryan Dempster, cutting the Red Sox lead in half.
Nicasio retired the first two hitters in the second before surrendering three straight doubles followed by two singles, with three runs scoring for Boston, expanding their lead to 5-1. The Red Sox extended their lead to 7-1 before Nicasio was pulled with one out in the third.
The Rockies got a run back in the fourth as Michael Cuddyer singled, extending his hitting streak to 22 games, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Nolan Arenado's base hit to center, cutting the Rockies' defecit to 7-2. However, the Red Sox got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Jose Iglesias doubled home Nava, stretching Boston's lead back to 8-2.
In the top of the seventh, Arenado scored and Jonathan Herrera reached third on Shane Victorino's error. Herrera later scored on an RBI single from Carlos Gonzalez, but the Red Sox piled on three runs in the final two innings to secure the 11-4 win.
