Will Swanner's ninth inning home run led to a Modesto win. Joel Payamps and Johendi Jiminian produce solid pitching performances for Tri City and Grand Junction.

High-A Modesto - W 4-3 (39-38)

Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the top of the ninth, Will Swanner launched a two-run homer capping the Nuts win over the San Jose Giants. Right fielder Jared Simon started the two out rally with a walk when Swanner came to the plate. The Nuts offense had been limited to only one hit by Eric Surkamp, who was making a final rehab start before being recalled by the San Francisco Giants.

Starter Eddie Butler matched Surkamp's performance, not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. Butler finished the night with just 63 pitches in five innings and zero earned runs on two hits and two strikeouts. Reliever Scott Oberg earned his league leading 18th save in the ninth.

Double-A Tulsa L 0-1 (36-39)

Without top hitters Kent Matthes and Kyle Parker, the Drillers offense was held to only a pair of hits. Right fielder Tyler Kuhn and second baseman Angelys Nina were the lone hits on the evening. Tulsa had four players who are batting below .200 start the game, not including cleanup hitter Dustin Garneau who is hitting a mere .240 on the season.

Starting pitcher Sean Gallagher had a solid game, allowing only a single earned run on nine hits and seven strikeouts. The major league veteran of four seasons, was signed by the Rockies on a minor league contract back in May and has posted solid numbers in Tulsa with a 2.01 ERA and 31 strikeouts.

Note: The Tulsa Drillers are expecting Kyle Parker to return after the weekend. He injured his wrist in the Drillers final game before the Double-A All-Star break.

Low-A Asheville

Game 1 W 3-1

Starter Matt Flemer made his fifth start of the season for the Tourists, going a complete game seven innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits and picking up seven strikeouts. Flemer was a 27th round pick of the Rockies in the 2012 draft out of UC Berkeley.

The Tourists took advantage of wild pitching in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases on two walks and a line drive by Rosell Herrera. A pair of Tourists then scored on on wild pitches by Miguel Fermin. Herrera finished with a pair of hits and is batting .356 this year. Max White contributed a double and a walk in the game.

Game 2 W 15-4 (41-34)

After losing their previous game to the elements, the Tourists brought the rain against the Marlins affiliate in Greensboro clubbing 15 hits and scoring 15 times. Matt Wessinger paced the Tourists with three hits including his fifth home run of the season. Every position player recorded a hit however and Tom Murphy hit a pair of home runs.

Starter T.J. Oakes went six innings and allowed four earned runs off a pair of home runs. Alving Mejias pitched a scoreless seventh in relief.

Short-season Tri City - L 0-2 (5-8)

The Dust Devils offense was stymied by Everett's starter Lars Huijer, who gave up only four hits and struck out nine Tri City batters. Leadoff hitter Wilson Soriano reached base in his first plate appearance after getting hit by a pitch. He was then erased on a pickoff. Huijer hit three Dust Devil batters, but contained the offense anyway. First baseman Ben Waldrip doubled in the second inning, but also struck out three times. Wilson Soriano had one hit and made a couple of highlight plays in the outfield, earning a pair of assists by throwing out a runner at second and third base.

Starter Johendi Jiminian lasted seven innings, allowing only two earned runs on five hits. Johendi struck out three and walked one batter. Marc Magliaro and Trent Blank worked two scoreless innings in relief.

Short-season Grand Junction - W 6-5 (6-1)

Terry McClure sparked the Rockies offense in a come-from-behind effort, when he reached base on an error and then stole second and third. McClure came around to score the go ahead run on a Cole Norton sacrifice fly. Shortstop Zach Osborne provided two hits, including a double and is batting .350 for the season.

Starter Joel Paymps earned his second win of the season after going six innings and giving up three earned runs on six strikeouts. Payamps allowed seven hits including a home run and hit two batters. Carlos Yan worked a clean ninth and received his first save of the season. Catcher Jairo Rosario threw out two base runners attempting to steal, showing that strong arms run in the family.

DSL Rockies - L 15-3 (14-8)

The Rockies offense was led by catcher Wilkyns Jimenez, who smacked three hits, including a double. Right fielder Randy Reyes had a pair of hits and shortstop Luis Jean walked and had one hit from the leadoff spot.

Starter Javier Palacios had his worst outing as a DSL Rockie, giving up seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. Previously Javier had allowed only one earned run in four starts. Reliever Hector Guerrero compounded the problems by allowing seven runs, six earned in 1.1 innings against the Yankees affiliate.
