Tuesday Pebble Report: Jeff Francis is Jeff Francis in rehab start

Colorado Springs lost again after Jeff Francis allowed a two-run homer in the fourth inning of his rehab start on Monday in Salt Lake.

AAA Colorado Springs: L 6-2 (31-25, 2nd, 3.5 GB)

The Sky Sox lost their fourth straight and seventh in their last 10 ballgames on Monday. Jeff Francis was not-bad-but-not-good -- as Jeff Francis tends to be -- in his rehab start, lasting just four innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits but striking out five and walking nobody. Francis allowed a two-run homer to Salt Lake's Roberto Lopez to put the Springs in a 5-2 hole.

Charlie Blackmon had a pair of singles to pace the Sky Sox offense. Josh Rutledge doubled, walked and scored a run in four plate appearances. Former Rockies farmhand Jarrett Grube picked up the win for the Bees, holding Colorado Springs to two runs on five hits in six innings.

High-A Modesto: L 5-0 (26-31, 4th, 9 GB)

Niko Gallego collected two of the Nuts' three hits in what was a very poor offensive output against the Giants' High-A affiliate, San Jose. Modesto was shut out and struck out 14 times, with Kyle Von Tungeln, Harold Riggins and Juan Crousset each collecting a silver sombrero.

Ben Alsup allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered a solo home run.

DSL Rockies: W 10-7 (1-1, 2nd, 1 GB)

Hamlet Marte went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in and Yonathan Daza had two hits, including a solo homer, and drove in four to lead the Rockies' offensive explosion.

The DSL Rox scored four runs in the seventh inning to reclaim their lead after Ronald Harvey and Hector Guerrero combined to allow six runs in the top of the sixth. That wasted a good start from Javier Palacios, who went five hitless innings and allowed just an unearned run. He struck out five and walked three.
