Continuing a string of poor offensive showings, the Rockies dropped their second straight game to the Miami Marlins, 4-2.
The Rockies did manage to get on the board first when Todd Helton hit his seventh home run of the season, a second-deck blast against Miami starter Jose Fernandez in the second inning to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.
The Marlins got the run back in the third when shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria singled, stole second and scored on Christian Yelich's single against Jhoulys Chacin. Miami got two more in the fifth on Hechavarria's RBI double and Yelich's run-scoring single to take a 3-1 lead. Chacin allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking none.
DJ LeMahieu led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple and scored on Carlos Gonzalez's ground out to cut the Marlins lead to 3-2.
Fernandez was removed after seven innings, having allowed a pair of runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Marlins expanded their lead in the eighth when Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run against Josh Outman. Mike Dunn and Steve Cishek each pitched a scoreless inning to seal the win for Miami.
The teams will be back at it tomorrow night as Jacob Turner takes on Jorge De La Rosa.
