Wednesday Pebble Report: Raimel Tapia extends hitting streak to 22 games

Raimel Tapia. - Charlie Drysdale

Grand Junction's center fielder kept his hitting streak alive on Tuesday night, but the team came up empty in the win column.

Colorado Springs, L 10-3 (54-48)
After Charlie Culberson started the game with a home run (14) for Colorado Springs, Sacramento turned the game around with four runs in the next two frames. Sky Sox starter Jeff Manship allowed those runs on a first-inning homer, Andy Parrino's single and the resulting fielding error by Tim Wheeler, and Jemile Weeks' triple.

Manship threw a wild pitch in the fifth inning to surrender his last run. Mike McClendon kept Sacramento off the board for two innings, though he did walk three, before Coty Woods entered the game. Woods allowed four runs on six hits.

Culberson finished the night 3-for-5 to lead the offense, having the only multi-hit game for the Sky Sox.

Tulsa, L 13-2 (47-53)
Not a good night for the Tulsa pitching staff, as four pitchers allowed 13 runs on 17 hits. Christian Bergman started the game, allowed six runs on nine hits -- including James Ramsey's 13th homer -- and struck out five. Josh Mueller allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning, but Juan Gonzalez wedged in a scoreless 1⅓ innings before Cole White surrendered three more runs.

Kiel Roling hit his 21st homer of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. Joey Wong added the other run an inning later.

Modesto, W 5-1 (50-53)
A sacrifice fly and a two-run error gave the Nuts a 3-0 lead after two innings, and starter Tyler Gagnon kept Bakersfield quiet through six innings. He did, though, allow back-to-back doubles to start the seventh inning and lose the shutout, prompting his exit from the game. Nelson Gonzalez and Kenneth Roberts kept the Blaze off the board for the remaining three innings.

Jared Simon drove in two on a single in the seventh to give the Nuts a comfortable lead. Jordan Ribera's triple was the only extra-base hit for the Nuts.

Asheville, L 10-3 (51-47)
Ben Hughes lasted just 3⅓ innings on Tuesday night, tagged for eight runs (the eighth one scored as an inherited runner on Alving Mejias) on 11 hits and two walks. The 10 runs came on 23 hits.

Asheville found its scoring touch late in the game, adding runs on a Rosell Herrera's two-run single in the seventh and Dillon Thomas's ninth-inning single.

Tri-City, L 3-2 (19-20)
Marc Magliaro's Tuesday night peaked when he got the first batter in the bottom of the ninth to pop out. A single, a fielding error, and a wild pitch put men on second and third. An intentional walk loaded the bases and, yeah, a walk pushed home the winning run.

Johendi Jiminian started for the Dust Devils and allowed one unearned run in five innings, walked three, and struck out six. Shawn Stuart gave up the game-tying home run to Justin Seager in the sixth.

Ashley Graeter's two-run homer (2) in the sixth had temporarily given Tri-City the 2-1 lead before Seager's blast.

DSL Rockies, W 10-1 (23-20)
Rockies starter Carlos Polanco allowed just one run -- on a wild pitch -- in seven innings of three-hit ball. He struck out six. Ronald Harvey, 18, allowed one hit over the final two innings.

First baseman Henry Garcia hit two doubles and drove in three, while 3B Luis Castro, DH Hamlet Marte, and RF Randy Reyes each collected three hits. Shortstop Luis Jean was the only Rockies batter who went hitless.

Grand Junction, L 5-4 (20-12)
Grand Junction's late-inning rally came up short on Tuesday night. Down 5-2 in the top of the eighth, Grand Junction added two runs on Jose Briceno's seventh homer of the season, but that was the end of the scoring. Briceno finished the night 4-for-4, falling a triple short of the cycle.

Other offensive highlights include Raimel Tapia extending his hitting streak to 22 games, Jairo Rosario hitting a triple, and Ryan Garvey hitting a homer (2) in the seventh.

Joel Payamps allowed four runs in 4⅓ innings on five hits and three walks. Angel Lezama gave up the other run.
