Rockies promote Charlie Culberson; no corresponding move announced yet

Charlie Culberson will suit up for the Rockies in a big-league game for the first time on Monday in Atlanta.

The Colorado Rockies will promote Charlie Culberson from Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to their game against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, according to Culberson's agent, Scott Barber.

There is no word on a corresponding move yet, but according to Tracy Ringolsby, the Rockies could opt to place injured outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list or make some kind of move with struggling utility player Jordan Pacheco; whether that would be a demotion to the minors or stint on the DL is unclear.

Gonzalez has been out of the lineup since Thursday while battling a finger injury that flared up in the series finale against the Miami Marlins. Time on the DL may or may not correct the problem, as Jeff wrote yesterday. Meanwhile, after finishing in the top 10 in the National League in hitting a year ago, Pacheco's batting line has sunk to .229/.268/.298 in his sophomore campaign.

Culberson hit .310/.338/.524 with 14 home runs in 419 plate appearances for the Sky Sox while spending time all over the diamond, including a stint in the outfield. Culberson has six big league games under his belt, all with the San Francisco Giants in 2012. He went 3-for-22 with no walks and seven strikeouts in 23 plate appearances.
