MLB Scores: Rockies 4, Padres 2

Justin Edmonds

Colorado win series vs. San Diego ... again.

Thanks to a strong outing from Jorge De La Rosa, a seldom seen 5-2 double play, and a hot bat from Corey Dickerson, the Rockies are now 4-0-1 in series against the San Diego Padres.  Too bad there are 28 other teams that Colorado has to play.

Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven innings, going just over 100 pitches, and gave up just two runs.  When things started to get out of control for him in the sixth, a quick throw home by Nolan Arenado allowed Yorvit Torrealba to get Jedd Gyorko out in a run down near third and then he slid over to tag out Jesus Guzman in a double play as he was trying to advance during the run down.

The offense was almost exclusively from the one, three, and four hitters.  In the first, Corey Dickerson got on with a two out double and Troy Tulowitzki brought him in with an RBI double.  The next time through the order, Dexter Fowler got on then Dickerson hit a triple to drive him in and Tulo hit a single to score Corey.  Finally in the eighth, Dex got on base a second time, stole second and scored on Corey's second double of the game.  Tulo might have had another chance to drive in Dickerson but Corey tried to turn his second double into his second triple and was thrown out.

The Padres manufactured both of their runs, getting one in the third and one in the fourth.  They had just as many hits, eight, as the Rockies but were unable to get anymore offense.  For the Rockies, Charlie Blackmon was the only other batter to get a hit and they made the most of their opportunities.

Corey Dickerson truly was the link to all of the offense.  He scored or drove in all four runs and his two doubles and one triple, totaling seven bases, was one more base than the rest of the team combined.  In his last five starts, he is batting .400/.429/.850.  Obviously he won't be able to stay this hot, but it would be nice for Walt Weiss to see if he can have the success against lefties that he had in the minors.

Rockies record: 57-65
