For the first time, the Rockies will close out their home schedule against an opponent from the American League as the Boston Red Sox come to Coors Field for the final two-game set of the home season.
To open the series, the Rockies will be facing veteran right-hander John Lackey. After two disappointing seasons in Boston and missing 2012 with Tommy John surgery, Lackey has returned to the form he showed with the Angels. In 28 starts this season, he has posted a 3.44 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 183 1/3 innings.
The Rockies will send Tyler Chatwood to the mound tonight for his 20th start of 2013. In his first 19, he has a 3.36 ERA in 104 1/3 innings, easily the 23-year-old's best showing in the Major Leagues.
Having already clinched the AL East crown, the Red Sox will rest some starters tonight, including Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Napoli. David Ortiz will play, however, manning first base tonight in Napoli's place. Celebrated rookie Xander Bogaerts also will not start tonight, with Will Middlebrooks getting the nod at third base.
Colorado, meanwhile, is still without the services of Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gonzalez and Wilin Rosario. Jordan Pacheco gets the start behind the plate tonight, with Corey Dickerson and Charlie Blackmon joining Michael Cuddyer in the outfield.
