Dodgers 7, Rockies 4: Rockies can't overcome miscues in loss to Dodgers

The Rockies may have lost, but at least we got to see CarGo out there for an inning. - Doug Pensinger

Jhoulys Chacin struggled early and there was a key error in the ninth innings as the Rockies dropped their second straight game to the Dodgers.

Jhoulys Chacin coughed up three runs in the second inning and Charlie Culberson dropped a fly ball to cost three more in the ninth - which was enough to cost the Rockies a win as they lost the second game of their three-game set against the Dodgers.

After getting out of a first inning jam with a double play, Chacin allowed four hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly in the second as the Dodgers scored three times to take a 3-0 lead. Adrian Gonzalez plated LA's fourth run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

Meanwhile, the Rockies' bats struggled against Dodgers starter Ricky Nolasco, registering just one hit in the first four innings. They did get to Nolasco in the fifth thanks to Charlie Blackmon's double and Chacin's RBI single, both of which came with two outs.

The Rockies added another run in the sixth thanks to DJ LeMahieu, who doubled, went to third on an error and scored on Troy Tulowitzki's ground out to cut the Rockies' deficit to 4-2.

Chacin rebounded from his slow start to pitch seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with a pair of walks and three strike outs.

The Rockies made it a one-run game in the eighth when pinch hitter Josh Rutledge homered off of Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez. Rutledge's seventh long ball of the year cut the deficit to 4-3.

Rex Brothers entered the game in the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs thanks to a pair of singles and a walk. Mark Ellis then hit a fly ball to left-center that looked to be the third out, but Charlie Culberson was unable to secure the catch, allowing all three runs to score. The Rockies managed a run in the bottom of the ninth to reach the 7-4 final.

Jorge De La Rosa takes the mound against Edinson Volquez tomorrow night as the Rockies look to salvage a game in the series.
